Default Disney's Live-Action Tinker Bell Movie

Reese Witherspoon to Star in Disney's Live-Action Tinker Bell Movie (Exclusive)

Quote:
The actress is attached to star and produce Tink, a live-action take on the classic Peter Pan character.

Witherspoon will produce with Bruna Papandrea, her partner at the duo’s production banner Pacific Standard.

Victoria Strouse, who wrote the script for Pixar’s upcoming Finding Nemo sequel Finding Dory, is penning the script for the project, which does not have a director on board and is still in development.

The take on the project is being kept deep in Pixie Hollow, but insiders say it will play with the idea and the timeline of the well-known Peter Pan narrative. It is also being developed in the vein of Maleficent, Disney’s 2014 hit that starred Angelina Jolie as the evil witch from Sleeping Beauty. Like Maleficent, this Tinker Bell tale is conceived as “the story you don’t know” and will offer a new perspective on the character.

Unlike Maleficent or some other recent Disney movies, however, Tink is being developed to be made in a more modest mid-range budget.

Initially a minor and non-speaking character in J.M. Barrie’s Pan story, Tinker Bell (who also goes by Tink) has, since her appearance in Disney’s 1953 classic animated feature, become one of the symbols of Disney and is at the center of the lucrative Disney Fairies franchise.

The character was Pan’s companion who was portrayed as temperamental and as someone who became dangerously jealous due to her unrequited love for the Boy Who Wouldn’t Grow Up.

Witherspoon, who has the comedy Hot Pursuit in theaters, just set up drama Pale Blue Dot, to which she is attached as star and producer, at Fox Searchlight.

So this will be a live action version of the Tinkerbell movie where she chooses what group she belongs to and finds out she is a tinker fairy? Oh boy. Yes... I have kids and had to watch the Tinkerbell movie.

Due to Pan flopping, I guess that this film is DOA. Nobody cares about Peter Pan anymore.

I still love both the 1953 film and Hook; I just couldn't stand the 2003 version. I was interested in Pan, but still haven't seen it either. I think part of the failure for recent translations has been because the makers of new films don't understand the character. This is a boy who never grew up, and all that entails. Yes, he's cheery, adventurous, and a fierce defender of Wendy...but mainly because he likes her stories about him. He's also selfish, stubborn, and cocky beyond reason. Let's not forget, this is someone who cut a grown man's hand off and fed it to a crocodile, just to make a point. He spends his days fighting Indians, locked in a perpetual youth of his own making. Concepts like maturity, and enduring responsibility mean nothing to Peter Pan. He sees everything in life as a game, and will only endure it so long as it keeps his interest. Tinkerbell's main role has long been one of contradiction; she loves Peter, even swallowing poison meant to kill him. But she has a fiery temper that's very easily lit...even resorting to murder so she can have Peter to herself.

Sorry but Reese Witherspoon is pretty damn old to be playing Tinker Bell, i would have gone for pre-hissyfit Chloë Grace Moretz

I enjoyed Pete's Dragon, and hope that a live-action Peter Pan film (done by Disney) does go ahead. Would be interesting to see their spin on it.

Also, the Pete's Dragon remake was vastly different from the original, although I don't know how they could drastically change Peter Pan the same way lol

The best live action Peter Pan will always be the 2003 film. I find it hard for anyone to top.

Also, since this film isn't getting made, does it still deserve its own thread?

Goody.

I wonder if it will be a 'Peter Pan' esque movie, or more like the TinkerBell movies by Disney Toon.

I'm going to guess the biggest reason why there seems to be hesitation here is that Disney is well aware of how Tinkerbell has become a sexual icon, and it is partly embedded in that character's essence. To a degree you could say a lot of Disney female characters are sexualized, but not to the 'official' degree that Tinkerbell has been.

Am I the only girl in the world who never had a speck of interest in Tinker Bell, not even as a child? I thought fairies were okay, but I never cared for Tinker Bell or Peter Pan (one of the few Disney movies I don't have, though I will pick it up if it gets a Signature version).

Not sure. I'd ask the other 5 girls on here.

The movie is heavy on charm...I think the film is taken for granted in animation circles, but it's an audience favorite.
