Default Bad Player or Bad Disc's ?

While at CEDIA Thursday through Sunday, the exhibitors using the Blu-Ray or the HD-DVD Player had their continuous loop presentations going from 9:00 am to 6:00 pm every day. Not once over those 4 days did I encounter seeing any problems in either type of player. So, my question is this: Is the problems that are being discussed here, with either player, really a matter of the Disc's ? and not the Players ? Both these Player were everywhere, not just an isolated few. Personally I was very impressed with 'both' format presentations. Players that were being used 9-10 hours straight, over and over again - in my opinion - must say something positive for both formats.

Your comments and opinions will be appreciated . . . . .

Jim

I think that its a combination of firmware being rushed to market before the troubleshooting is down so the consumer gets to deal with poor buggy firmware at first. I think its also a fact that some of the discs were not made that well. so basicly a combination of the 2. I think that most manufacturs would also make sure and take great lengths to ensure that whatever they were showing as a demo was very well tested and presented as far as testing it repeatedly beforehand.

Could be a random mix of all of the above.

I agree. It was both the discs and the players.

I just don't think the Toshiba players will improve their start up times by much since they (at least the $500 model) still use PC parts.

also their demos are just a couple minutes long, meaning they can be encoded at arbitrarily higher bitrate

I think most of the CE industry took note of the Toshiba and Samsung players and their lack of good QC and worked extra hard to make sure their own players wouldn't end up disappointing consumers as well. At least I certainly hope this is the case.
