Hi all, I remember reading about T2's Blu-ray transfer woes a while back so I never bought a copy. Has there been a decent transfer since the Skynet Edition? I'm pretty sure it was that one which was sub-quality.

The first UK disc, the Optimum is still the best.

There is so little in it and it's vertically stretched.

Definitely the first UK release.

It does mean you only get the extended cut, but more Michael Biehn is never a bad thing.

I thought the geometry was the same?

And the difference is more than just subtle. It was obvious to me.

Who said subtle, don't put your words in my mouth.

It does have a stretch, here's the theatrical HD DVD vs the 2015 BD: http://caps-a-holic.com/c.php?go=1&a...=55656&i=6&l=0

There's virtually no difference height-wise between the JPN and the 2015, the former is softer because of whatever filtering has been applied (which is why I was always a bit bemused whenever people wittered on about how awesome the JPN version was).

BUT the stretch itself is no big deal, I never noticed anything askew when watching any of the 'stretched' editions. It's the sort of slight change that stands out on comparison images but in real world conditions is imperceptible.

I remember I had a black and white telly you could manually stretch the image so it's only been the last few years that I've seen true circles on my display ...

Interestingly (although nothing to do with stretching) I was listening to one of the authoring chaps the other day and he said that he moves the letterboxing slightly to accommodate the sectors of the screen (I can't remember what they were called) because the transition between letterboxing and image with scope films was right on it and could cause some visual nastiness if it wasn't moved slightly.

I don't think one has as much to do with the other as you think it does, look how close the theatrical HD DVD is to the 2015 Blu. The differences to detail and grain stem from whatever filtering has been employed to these respective releases.

If you want to say one is squashed then go for it, but Velvet's original post is basically correct: the geometry of the image has indeed changed slightly from release to release, with the 2015 disc falling where it may.

Yep, David M (Lyris) said that if the letterbox bar falls in-between the block structure of the codec being used then it pays to just shift the image up or down slightly to avoid any compression greeblies.

That's awesome, i'm sure we will finally get the original bar scene in blue like it was in the original prints.

Dave not hopefully, it's a certainty. It's a James Cameron film.

I wouldn't get your hopes up. An original print was apparently used to grade Thief and it turned out tealed to perfection.

It should be noted that the mononymed 'Skip' above is most likely colourist Skip Kimball who's worked with Cameron before, including Avatar and the T1 remaster.

I forgot this was coming out. Arguably my most anticipated release of the summer!
