Default [PS4/PS3/PS Vita]Odin Sphere: Leifdrasir - HD Remake Of Odin Sphere

Quote:
Atlus and Vanillaware announced that they’re working on a new HD project together, and it’s been revealed that the title is Odin Sphere: Leifdrasir, an HD remaster (although, Atlus call it an HD “remake”) of the PS2 title for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, and PlayStation Vita.

Atlus and Vanillaware describe it as something more than your average “HD remaster,” with added features to enhance the 2D action characteristics, making it a more in-depth and enjoyable title than before.

Odin Sphere: Leifdrasir will release in Japan on January 14, 2016. Pre-orders include an “Odin Sphere: Leifdrasir Art Works” art book. The game will cost a whopping 7,980 yen, which is high for a remastered release of a PlayStation 2 game, to say the least.

Atlus just announced Odin Sphere: Leifdrasir, what they call an “HD remake that goes beyond your average remasters.” Here’s a look at the game’s first trailer.

Odin Sphere: Leifdrasir adds new battle actions, maps, enemies, animations, including an enhanced fighting system and additional features to make the overall gameplay smoother and faster than before.

Odin Sphere: Leifdrasir will release in Japan on January 14, 2016 for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, and PlayStation Vita.

Atlus and Vanillaware are working on a new HD project with Odin Sphere: Leifdrasir, an enhanced version with plenty of new additions from the PlayStation 2 action RPG. Amazon Japan provides us with a first look at some HD screenshots for the PlayStation 4 version of the game.

As previously reported, Atlus calls the Odin Sphere remake an “HD remake that goes beyond your average remasters.”

The game adds new battle actions, monsters, maps, animations, an enhanced battle system, and other features that improve the overall gameplay.

Pre-orders include an “Odin Sphere: Leifdrasir Art Works” art book, when the game releases in Japan on January 14, 2016 for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, and PlayStation Vita.

Quote:
After Atlus and Vanillaware announced Odin Sphere: Leifdrasir, fans wondered whether it’ll be more of an HD port or an HD remake. As it turns out, you’ll get both, as Vanillaware director Kentaro Ohnishi shared more about how it’ll be during an interview with Famitsu magazine.

“Odin Sphere is a title that was loved and also one that was received with harsh feedback,” says Ohnishi. It was made to be a successor of Princess Crown, but it ended up resulting in something that betrayed its original form.”

That said, Ohnishi feels that a simple HD version of the game wouldn’t be enough in this age. “I didn’t want to think ‘it’s just an old title, after all,’ and leave it as that, so I felt that the least we could do is treat it as Vanillaware’s newest title, and rebuild it once again.”

He continues, “on the other hand, I believe there are fans that greatly value the original version, so we’ve decided to add the original version in HD, along with the newer version, both together in one.”

Next, he’s asked about some of the new features.

“We’re adding monsters that we weren’t able to add in the original version as mid-bosses in the new title,” responds Ohnishi. “While they are mid-bosses, some of them might be made even better than bosses in the original version. Additionally, enemies from the original version have new AI, so I believe you’ll get to play with a fresh new sense.”

“The controls have an easy and familiar sense of control that you’d get from Dragon’s Crown or Muramasa,” concluded Ohnishi.

Odin Sphere: Leifdrasir will release in Japan on January 14, 2016 for PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, and PlayStation Vita. It will have a cross-save feature as well.

I first bought it last year when the ps2 classic was on sale for $4.99, and would definitely recommend it. I didn't enjoy it quite as much as Vanillaware's other games, but it's still gorgeous and I liked their anime-inspired take on Norse myth.

Demo is up.

Don't know if it's made that way just for the demo, but the dragon at the end was WAY easier than the original game.

Enjoyed the demo, but I can see myself playing it in small doses, so I'll go with the vita version

I played the demo two days ago and the reviews are great across the board. Despite June being ridiculously packed, I’ll still keep my preorder if not to get that gorgeous artbook. Vanillaware games are too good looking.

Also, I know that on release the spelling wasn't clear but the game's localized title is Odin Sphere Leifthrasir, not Leifdrasir. Finally, the developer is incorrectly listed as Atlus; where can I ask to get Vanillaware added to the wiki as part of the developers list?

Damn, I could probably swing the Vita version into my monthly budget, but the ps4 version is just a little bit too much. I would really want to experience the game's gorgeous artwork on my digital projector, though.

That is one gorgeous special edition! It's kinda crazy though that the artbook alone is being given away as a pre-order bonus, which probably is what most of the people getting the game really want (like me). The good reviews and the demo got me hyped.

I haven't had a chance to play yet, but the packaging for the storybook edition is gorgeous. This release was worth the wait.

Amazon put the book with the game in a very tight envelope which made it bend slightly on the top half. I was thinking on returning it but I left it pressed under a heavy weight overnight and now it's much better. This game is so gorgeous it hurts.

PS3's Battle Princess Of Arcadias is basically a clone off of this game. Not as good and doesn't have that HD remake feel to it, but is definitely worth it.

Too bad GrimGrimoire was only released as a PS2 Classic on PS3 which is also from Vanillaware but with NIS involved instead of Atlus.

I started playing this yesterday since I spent most of last week finishing Muramasa Rebirth. My god is this game good, and the campaign seems to be really long. Not that I'm complaining.
