Since the US bundle version was cropped and in wrong aspect ratio, hopefully this will be a quality transfer.

I don't know if reliable, but they say it's from a new HD master made from an "original uncut negative". "Original negative" I doubt, but as long as it's a good scan from decent 35mm material...

Also, since '84 is releasing this uncut edition, I wonder if that means that the previously announced release from Platinum Cult Edition will be the heavily censored German version...

I won't buy that one...i was really upset when their mediabook of Lionheart arrived. The quality was just horrible!

The disc is still made by Oliver "DigiDreams" / "Platinum Cult" / "Moontrap" Krekel

The Japanese have a new DVD release made from a new HD master so it's possible there was an HD master produced to be distributed worldwide.

Even if Mr. Krekel is not directly responsible for the transfer or the processing of the master for the licensor, chances are we could get at least some of these "treats" for the '84 disc (all of these things happened frequently on previous releases he was involved):

- DNR/Autoclean (even on top of a perfectly alright master)
- Low bitrate + compressionartifacts (maybe a main-profile encode, again)
- Contrast-boost/color-shift (red)
- lossy audio (confirmed)
- out-of-sync audio
- no subtitles (confirmed)

I will just wait for screenshots/reviews. Even if its acceptable i won't buy the overpriced mediabook and just get the standard-release.

By the way, talking about Contrast: Oliver Krekel recently uploaded this (he is the guy on the keyboard/guitar! I'm not kidding):

I would have never clicked on this thread if Krakel was referenced in the title.

Seen too many screwups from´84 and they often license the same transfer as Platinum cult so I'll wait for reviews/proof

€27 is 'much' cheaper!?!

I think we're spoilt in the UK.

Poor Germans are ripped off endlessly.

On Amazon the "3D Futurpak" is 45€...! (18€ cheaper)
On the PCE website the Futurpak is 30€ whereas this new edition is 22€... (8€ cheaper)

Obviously being from DigiDreams the BD image is DNR'd to death, and too dark, but comparing it to the shitty Anchor Bay DVD I have... bloody hell! That's hideous!

A French edition is planned by Metropolitan with a different master (due in September and bundled with the Blu premiere of THE PEACEKEEPER)...

It shows it will be released already on July 8th. Hopefully it will be a new master AND retain the correct aspect ratio.

It's been postponed to September and the date just hasn't been updated on Amazon yet. It's a new master.

Regarding the aspect ratio, I just found something rather unsettling:
I just checked and compared the widescreen DVD editions and none of them has the same ratio: French region 2 is 2.20:1 (and shows more image), US region 1 is 2.39:1 and Anchor Bay region 2 is in between these 2... You have to wonder what kind of anamorphic lenses they used because as far as I know 2.20 the ratio when you shoot 70mm...

I asked the director who's as puzzled as me regarding his intended framing/ratio and checked in with his DP (still waiting for reply).

Discussion on the the French release:
https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread.php?t=295254

I saw a control disc, the film is presented in its intended cinemascope 2.39:1 aspect ratio, uncut, and this HD master displays a color timing or color grading that looks more natural than the German edition. Plus the audio is not compressed Dolby Digital but DTS-HD Master Audio.

Whereas the German edition was just re-released in a standard case, a 250-limited VHS throwback mediabook will follow in March...

(2 discs + 2 discs bonus film "Sabotage" with Mark Dacascos)
