Disney The Collected Works of Hayao Miyazaki (1979-2013) (Amazon Exclusive)

The Collected Works of Hayao Miyazaki Blu-ray

Quote:
Due out exclusively from Amazon on November 17th, The Collected Works of Hayao Miyazaki contains each of the maestro’s eleven feature films: Lupin the Third: The Castle of Cagliostro, Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind, Castle in the Sky, My Neighbor Totoro, Kiki’s Delivery Service, Porco Rosso, Princess Mononoke, Spirited Away, Howl’s Moving Castle, Ponyo, and The Wind Rises.

But the highlight for those who already own all of these films on Blu-ray will be the set’s bonus features, including Yuki no Taiyo (Yuki’s Sun) — a 1972 television pilot based on a manga by Tetsuya Chiba that was directed, storyboarded and animated by Hayao Miyazaki. The set also contains three episodes (26, 27, and 41) of the 1972 anime series Akado Suzunosuk (Little Samurai), featuring storyboards by the filmmaker. Fans will also get the uncut version of Miyazaki’s Retirement Press Conference, which was thankfully not the final page in his career. The whole package is rounded off with a book featuring The Great Dichotomy: Looking at the Works of Hayao Miyazaki by Tomohiro Machiyama, which “explores the themes and techniques of this revered Japanese filmmaker, and selected text from Hayao Miyazaki’s initial notes and creative proposals for the production of each film.”

Default The Collected Works of Hayao Miyazaki

Didn't see a thread on this but Disney announced today in a Nerdist exclusive that the Collected Works of Hayao Miyazaki are coming to North America as an exclusive on November 17th. Details here:

Sadly, I own all of these except for Lupin and Kiki's and despite how beautiful this set looks, I don't think I can double dip. Especially when I got all of my copies from Disney Movie Club for very very cheap. Ugh... I even have all my Ghibli films sorted separately from the rest of my collection as well.

I kinda have to agree. I have most of these already. The way I see this is "too little, too late". Either people have already imported such a set or have been buying when the movies are released.

I'm glad to see something like this is being released but I'll be passing on it. I own the Miyazaki films that I enjoy and while the extras and other movies would be nice, I'll be passing still. Money is faaar too tight for what I expect this set to be priced at.

I've been looking into these releases for some time now. This might be the way to go especially if its cheaper than the stand alone releases.

If this is more than $200 I'll be shocked. That comes out to less than $20 a movie, which I imagine that is what Disney is looking for on these, especially in a collection like this.

If this is less than $150, I'll be pissed. Because that would have been my theoretical price point where I would have jumped on it. And it will retroactively make me angry at myself for not waiting for something like this that I had no idea would ever happen.

Why no slipcovers? Disney knows that the only reason Americans buy these movies are for the slip covers.

I may have to get this. The only Miyazaki film I have on Blu-ray is Ponyo, and the rest are on DVD. Plus I don't own Lupin or The Wind Rises. I was actually looking for The Wind Rises yesterday at Costco, but they didn't have any copies. This may have worked out in my favor.

I've never bought or not a release due to slip covers...

I actually buy movies for the movie as odd as that may sound.

I've never bought an automobile based on the options it has, more so for its proven reliability...but much like home media packaging, they certainly factor into the purchasing decision equation.
As odd as that might sound.

I doubt it's already sold out rather than Amazon hasn't started selling it.

Damn, I would love to get this. I'm sure the price will be expensive as hell though.
