The good news is instead of three discs, it'll be probably be two. But the bad news is it's Mill Creek so I anticipate them figuring out how to cram the seven hoursish on one disc.

The other good news is that the DVD did keep the making-of feaurette so hopefully the Blu-ray keeps it.

Debating on if I want to upgrade my DVD though. Might be time to rewatch my DVD set.

Sweet! Hopefully it's an improvement over the first press DVD that I still have. Good ol' classic TV mini-series back when the major networks still cared enough to make these.

I would imagine it was shot on film, but visual effects and editing likely on video.

But I haven't seen it since it originally aired, so I don't recall how the whole thing looked.

I just made a noise I didn't think was possible. I LOVE The 10th Kingdom, and I had just last night resigned myself to the reality that we'd never get a blu of it, then fate comes along to prove me wrong and I couldn't be happier.

Yeah, the special effects it used were not even particularly impressive for the day, but oh well. I'll just enjoy having a nicer-looking package on my shelf and a better resolution of Sally Peep singing the sluttiest sounding nursery rhyme ever, haha.

Amen.

I wouldn't mind seeing more Hallmark mini-series productions like Dinotopia, Arabian Nights, Jason and the Argonauts, Merlin and The Odyssey released on blu.

So far, three have been released, Tin Man, Alice and soon to be The 10th Kingdom. Realistically, the only one left I can see making the transition would be The Odyssey, I remember that being quite popular and it remains one of the best adaptations of Homer's epic.

This is such a fun mini-series! Looks like they did a great job in getting it to HD. So glad it's widescreen now too.
Check out this vide of the remaster:

I literally just squeeeed! The 10th Kingdom was one of my favorite mini-series to rewatch.

And seeing the new master images posted above. I can't wait.

Especially for Ed O'Neill's Relish the Troll King!

This looks nothing like the Seinfeld HD master, that's terrible and loses almost a quarter of the much needed vertical height, this is also Common Top (you don't lose much with Common Top) by the looks of it, but they've been able to go to the side for extra information.

I hope this is region free, or gets a European release, I have one of the Scandinavian DVD releases and that has an authoring error.

Fantastic series!

Can anyone confirm if this Blu Ray will play in the UK ? Is it region free. I have loved this series for years and have worked with the DOP on the series. If it is region A locked does anyone know if a region free or Region B version will be released?

I'll check when I get back from work, won't be for awhile.

Edit: Just checked the regions in my player, wouldn't work in B and C region, sorry .

If you are curious about other titles, always worth checking their region coding pages first, for example 10th Kingdom.

Just watched the Blu-ray, and I still love this mini-series, especially during the holidays!

And I can confirm that it is clearly NOT a HD remaster, just a nice upscale from the 16:9 SD masters (like the Farscape Blu-rays). I assume a remaster would've been too expensive, so I'm happy with what we've got, and at least the special effects are the same (they would've been redone for a full HD remaster).

There is however a big flaw, that apparently no one mentioned. The frame rate has been slowed-down! It is very clear when you listen to the opening theme song (it's longer and lower pitched compared to the CD version), or when you listen closely to the voice pitch of the actors.
It's clearly a screw-up. They did the same for the BBC "Pride and Prejudice" Blu-ray, but that was because the mini-series was shot at 25 fp (which works on Blu-ray as well so the change of frame rate really annoys me), but the 10th Kingdom was originally NTSC, so I don't get it.

I'm personally very sensitive to wrong audio pitch, so I ended up getting an unofficial (if you know what I mean) version that had been changed to 25fps (only way to get the original frame rate back).

I've just watched the making of, and you learn that the mini-series was shot in England and other parts of Europe, which could mean it was all shot on PAL (Farscape was shot on PAL in Australia even though it was made for American tv). That would definitely explain why the Blu-ray version is slowed down.
