Davy Crockett and the River Pirates is a lot of fun. Clearly made for TV, but a lot of fun.

I find it hilarious that almost all of these DMC exclusives have to be tied in to some kind of release year anniversary!

You've lost me...what's funny about that? Seems natural. Too bad we didn't get a 60th release for 20,000 Leagues in 2014, or a 65th anniversary for Treasure Island this year. I wouldn't find such things hilarious, I'd be showering Disney with moolah.

It's funny because it's like, oh yeah we can't release this movie because it's only been 53 years, I guess we'll have to wait a couple more because everyone has been waiting for the 55th anniversary of this!

I mean we were all clamoring for them to release Herbie Goes to Monte Carlo on its 35th anniversary so we could show it at our Herbie Goes to Monte Carlo 35th Anniversary party!!!

There's still a chance for TI. As for 20k, they probably want to tie in with the eventual remake, which may not happen for years.

Treasure Island IS coming this year, so that is good news.

Yeah, that's why I was hoping for One Magic Christmas (1985).

Guesses if they have HD transfers available since Disney has been multiples of 5 crazy with these live action exclusives:

The Parent Trap (1961)-55th anniversary in 2016
The Absent Minded Professor (1961)-55th anniversary in 2016
The Barefoot Executive (1971)-45th anniversary in 2016
Gus (1976)-40th anniversary in 2016
Freaky Friday (1976)-40th aniversary in 2016
Condorman (1981)-35th anniversary in 2016
Flight of the Navigator-30th anniversary in 2016

Too bad they couldn't do Watcher in the Woods this year since it's been 35 years this year. Of course the re-edited version came out in 1981, so maybe there is hope for a 2016 release!

I'm a bit saddened that it appears we will get the movie edits only and not the original Disneyland TV shows as we did with the Disney Treasures tins. At least I do have that set, and I'll be keeping it next to the new Blu-ray package.

TCM HD showed the first Crockett movie last December as part of the first installment of "Treasures from the Disney Vault" and it looked great. As much as I'd prefer them to be the TV cuts with Walt's intros, I'll still be adding this to my collection.

Wow. Some more classics. This is wonderful; I've held off watching some of the older live action Disney movies in anticipation of Blu releases.

I really regret not picking up the "Disney Treasures" release years ago. I didn't even know the films had originated as TV episodes until that box set came out. For the film versions, which I haven't seen in years, are there any specific edits to the episodes themselves (besides removing opening/closing credits) or are they essentially still the same aside from just being linked together to form a feature running time?

There are bits edited out, particularly for the first movie, and to a lesser degree for the second.

Even the tv episodes are missing some shots, and for the Treasure release, these had to be sourced from black and white masters, so the show will very briefly jump to a few black and white shots on the first episode. Very, very rarely. It's been a very long time since I watched it. On the whole, aspect ratio issues aside, the theatrical version has much greater video quality than the Treasures release.

If they really wanted to they could colorize those rare b&w scenes. Would be wonderful to do a BD restoration of the full TV episodes.

I watched this as a child on Australian TV in the 1970's or early 1980's. I'm wondering if we saw the episodic TV version or the movie edits...
