Default Star Wars Worth Upgrading to blu-ray?

I ready own all 6 Star Wars movies on DVD. The 2004 Star Wars: Original DVD Trilogy (Episode 4-6) box set (single dvd editions + bonus extras disc) and the Original Star Wars: Prequel DVD Trilogy (Episode 1-3) 2 DVD edition releases from 2005.

I am sitting on the fence with this one. Just wondering if I already own the fist 6 Star Wars movies on DVD. Do you think its worth upgrading to the blu-ray editions?

nah.... terribly grainy, poor sound, and you can see all of the edges on the special effects.

oh... and of course they were made in the 70s /80s - so we all know that films from that era were poorly made.

added - Lucasfilm doesn't really care about upgrading.....

and you can expect that Fox will re-release the box sets all over again and again on each new release !!

[Show spoiler]total sarcasm for the above

Silly question.

When viewing on a HD panel I thought the difference was dramatic. It just seemed far more dynamic and lifelike. DVD just looked straight out washed out and well upscaled.

I have recently watched 4,5 and 6 getting ready for the new film. My player is upscaling to 4K (my projection is 4K) and I can safely say it is the best I have ever viewed those films. Jaw was dropped a lot.

I've been watching them in HD on 7mate. Cropped to the wrong ratio, of course. But I don't have them on Blu-ray...waiting to see if Disney releases the original versions.

they been re boxed already, I see em on the shelves. and I believe there are steelbooks out there, though spec for spec the exact same discs for all packages (steels lack bonus extras)

and YES totally worth the upgrade in my opinion. DVD's were lifeless.

That's exactly what I was trying to say. You said it better. Blu looked like it had more contrast than DVD. Resolution was not so noticeable but the dynamic picture was.

It's just boosted brightness and reduced contrast for the most part. The DVDs had some oppressive contrast (quite a bit of shadow detail was lost) and the brightness was a little lower.

I watched 1, 2 and 3 on the weekend. Naturally they look improved, though there's softness due to the camera resolution of Attack of the Clones and the DNR on The Phantom Menace. The CGI stands out more in HD also. The audio is obviously an excellent upgrade. Unfortunately the best looking of the bunch (Revenge of the Sith) also has the weakest sound mix. Although a technically proficient mix, the lightsabers in particular lack the punch of the first two.

I'll be doing the original trilogy in two weeks so there's a gap between each trilogy and the new film - it may not be a 30 year gap but it'll definitely give some space between each era of the saga.

I'll still need to keep my DVD. I read the feedback and reviews on the current complete saga set and they said that some of the extras from the DVD editions were not ported over to the blu-ray. Especially the 150 min 2004 Empire of the dreams documentary and the 1 hour making of episode

I know its the same with other blu-ray releases. Don't know why thay can't use all the extras that form the previous editions.

Same here. Can't stand watching them on the TV. Especially if they have been zoomed and cropped to fit a full wide screen aspect. Like they also did with all the the Bond films. Not to mention constantly being interrupted by commercials and in some cases only on the SD channel in low definition.

Re sound mix, This is how it panned out ofr me at the cinema a decade ago.

I watched "Sith" in a freshly installed 5.1/DTS cinema. It had recently hosted War of the Worlds, which stunned the fudge out of me. "Sith" itself was acceptable. some starship noise had great growl, some laser effects sounded old and tired and did not project itself, listening to The Phantom Menace back in 1999 in Ultra Stereo (analogue),was a far more rewarding experience. it was very tight. deep and agressive, and then there was John Williams music .

so yea the first 2 movies were great and Sith was unfortunate..
