There is some debate, there may be a 4k 2d finish, 99% of those movies are 2k its all 2k from Fox mostly

MSRP on most studio new release titles is already $30 for Blu-ray 2D and $40 for Blu-ray 3D.

How often do we actually pay that for these movies though?

If MSRP for UltraHD Blu-ray came in at $40 or $50, I wouldn't be surprised or put off. But at the end of the day we'll probably be actually walking out the door with them for around $30, which would be fine.

MSRP on this title is $50 for 3D, but it's street price is $27.99. Even if the UHD version comes in with an MSRP of $60 it'll probably sell for around $35 to $40.

I won't be rushing out to stock up on every available title at that price, but for some movies I will. That's still less money than I've paid for many of my movies based on packaging alone. Hello $60 steelbooks, I see you over there taunting me.

So now I have to choose between buying the 3D version of The Martian and the 4k version... but buying the 4k version means I will need to buy a new BD player right, and it's more expensive... guess that makes the choice easier for me.

If they're not going to include a 3D version, I consider these 4K releases a step backwards and wont be buying them.

2K DCP for theaters, but 4K is needed at home.

Don't matter. With hdr and 10 bit color, it will look insane on disc. Blu ray will instantly look like garbage to the enthusiasts.

Yes all Ultra HD player should play current Blu-Ray 3Ds. They just don't have a standard for 4k3D yet. It is probably years away but I think it will eventually happen

can't play 3D BDs on UHD 4K player. only 2D BDs

possible other brand will make UHD BD players play with the current 3D BDs.

thats not true. 3D is an optional spec, it is not required. however im betting all of them will include 3D playback because they dont want to lose sales. its virtually a gaurantee that 4k player will play HD 3D blu rays.

It's just not mandatory. Just as it is now. Most new BD players today still play 3D discs despite that.
