Quote:
L.A. private eye Philip Marlowe (Humphrey Bogart) takes on a blackmail case…and follows a trail peopled with murderers, pornographers, nightclub rogues, the spoiled rich and more. Raymond Chandler’s legendary gumshoe solves it in hard-boiled style – and style is what The Big Sleep is all about. Director Howard Hawks serves up snappy character encounters (particularly those of Bogart and Lauren Bacall), brisk pace and atmosphere galore. This Blu-rayTM doubles your pleasure, offering two versions of this whodunit supreme: the familiar 1946 theatrical version, full of reshot scenes of incendiary Bogart/Bacall chemistry, and the less-familiar 1945 prerelease version, as a special feature, whose plot and resolution are more linear in fashion.

I'm shocked that two Bogie classics are coming from WAC. WTF?

Fantastic news, regardless!

Yeah, it's a bit sad that these couldn't pass for wide releases. I think they would have done quite well in a box set (noir, or Bogie/Bacall)

Yep. Releasing something like Passage to Marseille via WAC makes perfect sense, but TBS and KL are popular and renowned classics so this a bizarre decision, to say the least.

Finally!!!

Doesn't matter to me it's a Warner Archives release, their quality has actually been HIGHER on these types of releases than the typical Warner Home Video release. The only possible negative, is that if WHV had done their release, then WAC could have continued with some different or lesser known films.

I'm still hoping that WAC will get to some of the volumes of classic Gangsters, since it seems all hope is lost of any more blu-ray Gangsters volumes. Hopefully this is a sign that Warner is done just "sitting" on films, and Warner Archive can get to releasing more classics on blu-ray.
