Arrow will be releasing this great Harryhausen doc on BD on June 28th.

The remarkable career of the movie industry’s most admired and influential special-effects auteur, the legendary Ray Harryhausen, is the subject of Gilles Penso’s definitive documentary Ray Harryhausen: Special Effects Titan.

Leaving no doubt as to Harryhausen’s seminal influence on modern-day special effects, the documentary features enlightening and entertaining interviews with the man himself, Randy Cook, Peter Jackson, Nick Park, Phil Tippet, Terry Gilliam, Dennis Muren, John Landis, Guillermo del Toro, James Cameron, Steven Spielberg and many more. Glad they're bringing it over to the states, the UK has had this for awhile, almost imported it a couple times. Anything Harryhausen is a must buy.

Yeah I almost bought it a few times too, its been pretty cheap. I was surprised that no one had released it in the US. It's a very nice doc about his life and work.

Hmm Im not sure I've ever seen any of his work. I find special effects very interesting though maybe I will pick this up.

May I ask your age? If you're well under the age of thirty, I can sort of understand never seeing a Harryhausen film.

Eh, I'm slightly over 30 and I don't know any of my contemporaries that had ever seen one (besides the ones in a high school mythology class taught by a film nerd where we were required to watch Jason & the Argonauts). I only saw them cause I was actively seeking them out after getting hooked on genre movies by my parents at a VERY young age and had my dad tape them for me off cable whenever I'd see them in the TV guide.

The slipcover listing is probably a error. I received mine one week after release and it didn't have a slip. Never seen any with one.

I watched a few unboxing and review vids for this title, and it looks like that while Arrow's UK release did come with a slip, the US version did not. Or at least, no one who has purchased a copy or seen it in stores has ever come across one if it did.

I think the db entry was likely juat cloned from the UK one, so the info about th slip carried over.

No it was not issued with a book (or a slipcover btw), just a reversible sleeve.

Edit: I was looking through your online collection to see if you owned the Indicator/Powerhouse Harryhausen sets - extremely impressive quality collection!
