Which network is lucky enough to be the one that brings Amy Adams back to TV? Turns out, it's not TV — it's HBO! Deadline reports that the premium cable channel has won a bidding war with Netflix for Sharp Objects, an adaptation of the 2006 Gillian Flynn book that will star Adams as an unstable reporter investigating the death of two teenage girls. The order is for an eight-episode first season, directed by Jean-Marc Vallée and written by Flynn and unREAL's Marti Noxon. Hopefully, her new branch of the Time Warner family will treat Adams better than her old one.

I believe HBO also won a bidding war with Netflix for Big Little Lies! Proud HBO fan.

Any news of when this might premiere? Like this fall, early 2018? Because if fall 2017, we should have a release date by now, considering it's HBO.

But nonetheless, I'm excited!

Amy Adams directed by Jean-Marc Vallee in a mini-series for HBO? Hell, yes! I haven't read Sharp Objects and may hold off until I see this series for maximum impact and surprise. Thought Dark Places was a better book than Gone Girl (and read both prior to seeing the films) but Gone Girl was certainly the superior film...what a twist!

I've read all three of Flynn's books and they are all excellent. She needs to write then a little faster. As has been said, Dark Places was not made into a particularly good film.

And Amy Adams! Really looking forward to this.

Same and I agree! I’m probably actually in the minority that prefers Dark Places and Sharp Objects over Gone Girl (novels-wise). Haven’t watched Dark Places (the mixed reviews give me pause) but Amy Adams paired with the director of Big Little Lies and in HBO does give a lot of promise for the adaptation.

Geez it’s been like 5 years since I read Sharp Objects. Dark novel but extremely well written with lots of layers and a shocking yet completely sensical ending.

Setting the DVR now. It’s up against The Affair, which is great. So I’d love it if there were two excellent shows at 9pm

It’s HBO and it’s a drama series. No way it won’t.
