Default Sony Silver Playstation Headset question

Hi, Im looking to buy one of the silver headsets from Sony, and I have a couple of quick questions, I saw that it comes with a 3.5mm plug, and the adapter for USB, so, my first question is, if I plug it to the remote controler via the plug, or directly to the ps4 via USB, will I still get 7.1 sound?
The second one,(and may be a little dubm but I couldnt fint the answer anywhere) is that if I watch blu ray movies on it, will it be still the 7.1 sound available?

Thank you!!!!

Don't buy one.

My honest answer. I had 2 and 2 broke. They've pretty much got a widespread issue of cracking on the head band area even with careful use.

To answer the actual question though, you hook the 3.5mm jack into the USB adapter and that goes directly to the USB port. 7 1 virtual surround sound then activates.

My advice would be for you to actually get the wireless Gold headset which is praised for better built quality and offers 7.1 VSS too. Only thing is that if you do want to try 'wire' it I.e. Constantly on charge, then you have to buy a long enough charge cable. Tbh though, best to let battery drain and fully charge. Will get more longevity out of it. Just a shame Sony not launched a new range of 7.1 VSS headsets including a better quality wired one

I'll chip in here in praise of the GOLD Wireless set. Never tried the Silver. For the money, the Gold headset delivers! I'm sure there are better headsets out there for more money, but you can catch the Gold on sale for around $75 on occasion. They provide great sound and are EQ customizable (to an extent). Additionally, they are comfortable and durable if handled with care. I've had mine for 1.5 years and have no reason to think about "upgrading."

Just my two cents.

I had 2 grey anniversary edition wiresless gold and both broke. My sister is on her third from wireless gold from best buy. Can't beat that warranty.

My lady gave me a black wireless gold headset from best buy. If and when it breaks I'll gladly get a new one.

If your going to go with wireless gold deff get it from a place like best buy with a warranty.

Even the Golds are fragile so be careful. I have my launch one still but the band is starting to loosen so now I am even more extra careful moving them around. If ya toss these around like garbage, yeah expect 1-2 month shelf life.

I later bought another because the sound started crackling. I kept the old one though as I used the new Gold headset & then went back to try the old one & no crackling sound.

Figured what the issue is with these. The PS4 emits too much heat to the USB Ports. As far as I know there is no fix. Good news is the heat rarely interferes with the signal & when it does I can take the dongle out & let it cool down.

I think the grey headsets are more fragile than the grey ones. That seems to the be the case with the Astros and the Skullcandy sets as well.

Perhaps the blk plastic more durable. Dunno just a thought. None of my headsets are abused. They get used daily but never tossed around nor dropped.

Rebought a Gold cause BB 2 year warranty is crap. They want you to call Best Buy on the phone to get a coffin box, send it in (Canada Post min 7days) then they see if it can be fixed. (Obviously not, it's cracked dumasses) then I'd wait a month while they decide wether or not to ship out a new one. Not to me though, the store where I got it. That's another 7 days. Last time I ever get a BB warranty.

Anyway the new one I got has no cracks & seems fairly tight. Normal. Loosens up over time. My spare is doing good. No cracks. Been extra careful handling them though since the first one cracked even though I treated that one good.

Would be nice for Sony to sell a hard shell case for these.

I bought the Afterglows about 2 years ago and couldn't be happier with them.

Been tempted numerous times in store to get these since I tried all others except Afterglow & never pulled the trigger.

They're a little on the bulky side. That's really my only complaint with them. Otherwise I've loved them and they sound great.
