Ok I have been been Blu since I first got a PS3 the day it was released. Right now I am up to 50 Blu-rays and don't plan on stopping anytime soon. I check Blu-ray.com many times a day and finally decided to start posting and I have a very serious question.
Now I know everyone has been saying that WB is leaning toward going exclusively to Blu-ray at the beginning of 2008. But IF and i do mean IF for some stupid and crazy reason they decide to go HD-DUD and just make this war last even longer, Would you buy both HD and Blu? There are many titles that I would like but are only on HD. I would just like to know where everyone else stands on this. |

Warner becoming HD-DVD exclusive will completely stall the packaged HDM market. I will stop buying disks and wait for the holographic media and 1440P TV's (or whatever is it going to be)
It's not emotional attachment- it is common sense. "Format neutrality" (or in other words - greediness for the studios and egocentrics/ignorance for the users) keeps fueling this war. No, it's not all that matters. For us, early adopters, matters the technological progress, the best quality possible, and how futureproof is the product. |

I know your asking a question you feel is legit, but come on. Your asking members of Blu Ray.com if they would leave blu and go over to the red team? Now most of us love our blu and first and foremost love high def and we feel that red is not on the same level so you will get some interesting comments back I am sure on this one.
I for one have invested way to much in my system and movies. No way I would replace my library with red, never. Just my opinion. |

I wasn't asking if you would leave Blu. I was just wondering since the war would be even pretty much if you would purchase both formats? |

As the true strategist that I am, I would lean back in my chair, and slowly come forward looking my competitor squarely in the eyes and say, “Interesting move, but you will find it to be a costly one!” HD-DVD is the underdog, but not a very powerful one. Any benefits HD-DVD has claimed over BLU have been dispelled one by one. Think about it, they didn’t go with the dual format (HD-DVD/DVD) disc because they were trying to get more HD discs into the household “in case” the household eventually went HD. They did that because of uncertainty. They did it because they don’t believe in their own format, and want to be able to look back and say it was not a “total loss”. WB going the wrong way would be an interesting move in the fight, but certainly not the Death Blow. Looking down the road I predict Paramount will make the right choice and learn that if they really want to make money they should choose the “winning” format. I also strongly believe that the numbers for stand alone players will out number the the competition's and the PS3 will be more of the trump card waiting to pounce. Oh yeah, the answer to the question for is definitely BLU for me.

If Warner went HD-DVD, i would stop buying blu except for the big releases (ie Spidermans, x-men, Star Wars, LOTR, Matrix, etc) until there is a winer or a new format. Since I already stopped buying DVDs about a year and a half - two years ago, they would really just be hurting both HDM and SDM sales even further.
I will never buy an HD-DVD player until it is that or nothing. I would also probably just hold off for a while even if they did win and spend my money on something else. I would not feel good about ever supporting a format that can't provide a proper HD Video and HD Audio experience at the same time, along with a nice collection of HD extras Last edited by bajor27; 12-22-2007 at 06:47 AM. |

I would continue with Blu watching the movies I have and buying new ones, and let it play out a bit (as well as create a need for HD DVD). IF WB goes red and HDOM sales continue increasing and it looks like HDOM is here to stay and will be a dual format then I will buy an HD DVD player (or most likely a combo). So my guess, what ever happens, HD DVD is not in my plans for 2008 even if early 2008 WB goes HD DVD only and nothing good shows up for BD.

I think the difference between blu-ray vs hd-dvd and the betamax vs vhs is the new advancements in overall tech involved in our daily lives. We as consumers are now a "how many gigabytes can it hold" mindset with all of our cell phones, music players, flash drives, digital cameras... The average consumer now understands the difference between 25 gigs and 50 gigs. Attach that to the prestige of High Definition entertainment and you have yourself the thought of, "Not only is it high definition, but it can hold MORE content!" PC Geeks such as myself endulge in smaller media holding more information. 50 gigs is half of one of my Hard Drives. Do you realize how many songs you can fit in 50 gigs? The elements that immediately come to mind when I think of Blu-Ray is more capacity, higher quality. When I think of HD-DVD, I think of an upgraded DVD that can play high definition content. I don't see the potential in HD-DVD like I do in Blu-Ray.
VHS may not have had the quality, but they had the capacity - and this is where the betamax shot itself in the foot initially. Now, the tables are turned for a ferocious comeback. Not only does Blu-Ray have the quality, but it delivers the capacity. Blu-Ray to stay. |

+1 I love HD optical discs, they're easily the best thing going for folks with the equipment to really see a big difference but if Warner went HD DVD it would be the death knell for packaged HD media and I'd dump my collection while it was still something other than a curiosity (see e.g., SACD and DVD-A discs).
