The Emmy Award nominations were announced this morning. Since the list is long I put it in a spoiler below:
[Show spoiler] The love for The Americans is surprising. The show was shut out of the major categories for it's first 3 seasons and even when a show is great usually the Emmy voters don't start to recognize a show they've previously ignored. |

Yeah, the presence of The Americans was the first thing I noticed, followed by thankfulness that the presence of the Good Wife has been reduced (the show used to be great). The lack of The Americans at the Emmys has been mentioned by at least several entertainment sites and tv critics, perhaps enough Emmy voters were paying attention this time?

Very happy that The Americans got some major love!
Love the Laurie Metcalf nominations... she got nominations in acting for THREE different roles. Absoultely incredible. One of my FAVORITE roles of the year was Louie Anderson in Baskets, and to see him get a nomination was incredible. |

Maisie, Ellie, Kirsten and Keri.
Great choices. Off the top of my head, Christian Slater was snubbed. Corden gets a nom and Colbert doesn't. I've hardly watched him because he's been awful. I really thought he was a great choice to replace Letterman. I was wrong. |

Kind of odd that a theatrically-released film (He Named Me Malala) was eligible for Emmys but a film made for Netflix (Beasts of No Nation) wasn't even entered.
Meanwhile, I'd say the biggest snub was Christian Slater. He won a Golden Globe and Critics' Choice award for his work but wasn't even nominated. And I find it surprising that Jessica Jones was only nominated for its title sequence. You think a show with its praise would have gotten more love. The committee must be waiting for next year on these two (I also bet Maria Bamford and Anna Friel get nominations for their shows as Netflix will certainly push their shows). |

It wasn't season four of Orange is the New Black that was eligible, it was season three. The Emmy calendar for this year's nominations ran from June 1 2015-May 31, 2016 and the fourth season of OITBN didn't come out on June 17, 2016.

Disappointed, but not surprised, that Underground didn't get any nominations. Fantastic show. See the thread: https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread.php?t=277691
Also, disappointed that the Roots mini-series didn't receive any acting nominations. Glad to see the following nominated: Bryan Cranston (All the Way), Idris Elba (Luther), Courtney B. Vance (People vs. O.J.), Kerry Washington (Confirmation), Audra McDonald (Lady Day at Emerson's Bar & Grill), Sarah Paulson (People vs. O.J.), Aziz Ansari (Master of None), Rami Malek (Mr. Robot), Tracee Ellis Ross (black-ish), Taraji P. Henson (Empire), Viola Davis (How To Get Away With Murder), Tituss Burgess (, Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt), & The Black Panthers: Vanguard of the Revolution, Racing Extinction, The Hunting Ground, Cartel Land, What Happened, Miss Simone?, Roots, Listen To Me Marlon, Making a Murderer, He Named Me Malala, etc. |
