Is there a technological constraint that prevents this? Originally, I thought that manufacturers were just trying to get 4K players out quickly and had not yet worked through the 3D part. But the players have been out nearly a year, and I haven't heard of any fix for this. I'd like to be able to buy 4K 3D movies, but if I have to choose, I'd rather watch 3D on my upscalable 4K TV than a 2D version in 4K.

correct me if im wrong but its cause in order for the image to be 4k 3d the source would have to be 8k (dividing 4k for left/right).

There are several discussions about this already.
https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread.php?t=279893 Also, 4K 3D don't even exist in cinemas, why do we need it at home? |

[QUOTE=BozQ;12620572]There are several discussions about this already.
https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread.php?t=279893 Thanks. I hadn't seen that thread before. I understand now why we won't be seeing this in the near future, at least until maybe 8K comes in. About the discussion there on the shrinking market for 3D, if my local Best Buy is any indicator, the shelf space for 4K is growing, but the space for 3D has not shrunk all that much since last Christmas season, when I bought my 4K/3D TV. |

[quote=man_westooth;12621299]The 3D section in Best Buy would have shrunk a lot more if there had been more UHD movies available when it last changed.

Nobody in there serious business model wants to throw good money after like 4+ years of bad! Although the chinese film market has welcomed it recently with Jason Bourne there were reports of mass vomiting & nausea & punters demanding their cash back....another home goal for the 3dee downfall.

When the format was announced they said the main reason for no 4K 3D (besides lack of material) are the huge additional requirements to the players hardware and the HDMI standard. |

It turned into a barf-o-rama due to the horrible shaky cam - worse than the previous films. I almost blew chunks watching the 2D version... a) because it was a pretty lousy film with the exact same plot as the last two Bourne films (rinse, repeat). and b) the cinematography was godawful |

I don't think having 3D in 4K Resolution is that big a deal. Anyone like myself who has the Ultra HD player, and a 3D capable 4K TV, 1080p Blu-Rays will upscale to close to 4K anyway. Personally I hate having to choose between the Ultra HD version of a movie and the 3D Version. The upcoming X-Men Apocalype is a perfect example of that. I feel like I'll be missing something either way. So I say drop the Digital Copy of the movie in the Ultra HD package, and add the 3D Blu-Ray Disc instead, if available. If that drives up the price another $5 or so, so be it. It would still be a helluva better option than paying on average $60 for two different packages of the same movie.
