I guess we should just assume that all upcoming Sony blu rays for non-new titles are BD-Rs until told otherwise.
Did Sony end their partnership with every small label so that we're forced to have all these movies in BD-R form? Twilight Time? Image Entertainment? Mill Creek? |

I would have been excited about this announcement if it weren't BD-R.

Not sure why everybody automatically assumes this will look like crap just because it's on a BD-R.
Who gives a crap if it's pressed or not, by the time either disc type would ever cease to work, blu-ray players will be long gone by then (and probably out live you)! ![]() |

I have a couple of BD-Rs from Film Detective and my copy of The Rage I got through Amazon and they all play fine on my Oppo BDP-103.
That said this is lousy news. (I paid under $7 a piece for the titles I mentioned.) |

Well, FWIW, I have an older OPPO BDP-83 (the very first of their HQ Blu-ray players) and I have personally burned probably a few thousand BD-Rs and they all play just fine. I don't know if the ones burned by SONY are any different or if the way they burn them would make them less compatible with some players, but mine does just fine with burned DVDs, BD25's, and BD50's...
I tend to agree with the fellow above who says 'What's the big deal' Digital files are digital files and are 100% identical. I do not know about the eventual longevity of burned discs over pressed ones, but I have BD-Rs in my collection that go back to the beginning of the format 10 years ago and even DVD-Rs that are upwards of 15+ years old, and so far every one I play does just fine. That's why I despise these cases where older releases go OOP and then sellers try to get hundreds of dollars for the 'original' disc and case, when all you are talking about is a digital file, a piece of metal-plastic that is worth about $.05, and in most cases sub-par 'artwork' on a generic case. I almost ALWAYS create my own Blu-ray case artwork because I can always make it look better. Just my $.05 cents... or, just pretend I threw a generic Blu-ray disc at you... ![]() Last edited by Latheofheaven; 12-01-2016 at 07:35 AM. Reason: More stuff... |
