It's an incredible movie. Intelligently crafted sci-fi from one of the best directors working today, in my opinion. I've put up a spoiler-free review on my YouTube channel for anyone interested in hearing more!

Nice review Elliot.

After reading so many positive reviews online, and after listening to Johann Johannsson's amazing score, my anticipation for this film has gone up substantially.

Great review. Unfortunately I have too many work commitments the next few days so it will be Monday before I catch it. Looking forward to it!

Having just watched Arrival this evening its without a doubt the best film i've seen this year along with Embrace of the Serpent. I will definitely be seeing it again in a few weeks.

You've ignored me twice on YouTube (maybe it's my somewhat non-PC Google avatar?) so I'll ask you here:

Where did you get your Blu-ray shelves as featured in the background of your videos?

I replied both times. Maybe your notifications aren't coming through for when someone replies. Go back and check, the link is there to the shelves

I don't mean any offense, but in the future you should work on your video thumbnails. Your mouth gaping open doesn't actually entice people to click. Although there does seem to be a trend with youtube reviewers making silly gestures all the time, so maybe it..does? Anyway, juat a suggestion

Can't wait to see this. Have been impressed with every Villeneurve film I've seen (I think Enemy is my fave). Roll on Blade Runner 2!

Enemy is my favourite so far as well! And it was officially titled Blade Runner 2049, by the way (and I also can't wait).

Plan on seeing Arrival very soon. Hopefully this weekend, if not sometime in the week.

Funnily enough my favourite film of the year so far is Jeff Nichols' Midnight Special - another intelligent sci-fi that went slightly under the radar, or was misunderstood (as his previous films often have been). Definitely happy to see some of my favourite filmmakers of late dipping into sci-fi territory in new and exciting ways!

I watched Arrival last night, what a beautiful and mesmerizing film!. It's one of the rare instances where a major Hollywood movie hasn't been dumbed-down to appease the popcorn crowd, and offers something genuinely unique. It gave me the same kind of feeling I had after watching I Origins and Upstream Colour.

Because the reveal near the end was so masterfully set up, it takes Denis Villeneuve to a whole new level as a director IMO.

Bring on the Blade Runner sequel I say!.

This is definitely worth catching on the big screen if you can. Beautifully gloomy, in that Villeneuve style.

Saw this tonight, best film I've seen this year, hands down. Ironically, Sicario was my favourite film of last year, loved Prisoners, still haven't seen Enemy or Incendies but I will be seeing those ASAP. Arrival though, might be his best, so knocked me for six that I was just sat there literally 10 minutes after it ended and I was crying the whole walk back home. Sensational stuff.

Wow. I may have to see it this weekend (and if not, early next week). Enemy is my favourite of his so far I think, but have found it's a little divisive too (my sister's BF hated it). Saw Prisoners and Sicario in the cinema and enjoyed both, and Incendies on Blu-ray is a must-buy (think it's been under a fiver for years now).

Have to say, I'll be impressed if I like this one even more than Jeff Nichols' Midnight Special (my favourite film I've seen so far this year). I am interested in linguistics, so it definitely ticks the right boxes on paper.

The film is fantastic, although I did have a few hang ups with the third act that stopped it becoming my favourite Villeneuve film. But it's a film I would happily watch again to hopefully piece it all together.

I think Midnight Special perhaps just edges out the film for my favourite Sci-Fi film of the year, I think the set up and slow burn for that was just tantalising and I love that strange blend of southern gothic and Spielberg whimsy. But out of the two, I'm hoping this makes a bigger splash come awards season.

The UK Blu is listed here as 20th Century Fox, yet Amazon state it's by eOne. Any ideas?
