Not only do they not have a lot of HDR content, but the quality of what little they have is very poor. Naturally, UHD BD and uncompressed HDR demos you find online are vastly superior, but so are videos on YouTube and Amazon Video.
Has anyone else experienced this? |

i believe i told you this elsewhere, but netflix has incorrect HDR metadata and im not sure if theyve fixed it. also, HDR grading takes practice to get it right. hibana spark and chefs table france are very good, but the others havent blown me away. give it time to see what happens.

This is an old thread so I wonder if things have changed over the years, but in my opinion, Netflix’s Dolby Vision content is downright outstanding. I renewed my subscription just to be able to watch a bunch of 4K content on my new OLED TV and I am wowed by how great the picture quality is! I was only going to renew my Netflix for one month because I am already subscribed to HBO Max’s annual plan, but Netflix’s 4K shows have been downright outstanding and I have been enjoying them immensely. So I’m probably going to keep the subscription going! It’s expensive at around $20 per month, but it’s so worth it!

Yeah idk I haven't really gotten into it even though I have access to 4K netflix. But I would say likely... Having played random tv series like Ozark and stuff and been impressed compared to the 1080p SDR I first watched that; on a plasma years ago.
Combination of mature HDR grades on mature OLED tech in DV makes it an apples to oranges comparison to my example and to those reporting their experience in this thread. But anyway. |

I always thought that Netflix has encoded their 4k catalog in very questionable quality, but during the weekend I watched The Vast of Night and The Sixth Sense (Amazon/Disney) and both of those were very difficult to watch all the way to the end because the picture quality was AWFUL. Vast of Night looked nowhere near 4k resolution and Sixth Sense was somehow ****ed up regarding the colour and brightness. I'm on free week (or was it month?) but I don't have to watch anything else, that was it for me. Once the Alien saga will be released in 4k, I probably have to subscribe for Disney for a month - that is if those aren't released as a discs which would be an instant pre-order for me.

I don't believe much has changed recently, and there are threads for this in the "digital movies" category broken down by individual movie lists. iTunes generally has the highest bitrate followed closely by MA. The others are lower, with Vudu leading the pack.
In my experience Amazon Prime looks dreadful in HDR, and Disney+ has its own unique appearance that may not sit well with some. Last edited by vector72; 01-15-2023 at 03:42 PM. |

I’m actually surprised how much Netflix expanded their 4K library. A couple of years ago, I felt their 4K content was lacking. But I recently renewed my subscription and I’m pretty amazed at how massive it has gotten! It is so worth the $20 per month as I feel there is no other streaming service that contains this much 4K content!
