Planning on getting a projector shortly, been researching the last few days as I know nothing about them.
Planning on a 100 inch screen The projector would be wall mounted and the distance to the screen would be about 16 and a half feet. Been looking on projector central at the calculator for throw distance and it's saying I would need the projector to be about 11 feet from the screen for 100 inch image. At the distance I would be looking to place the projector its telling me I would get about 150 inch picture. Is this the maximum size I could get or can I shrink it down to 100 inch size ? The projector I was looking at was the Optoma HD141X Thanks |

Edit: For example I have an Epson 8700UB PJ. According to the projector central calculator at 16 feet throw distance my zoom can create an image from 77 to 163 inches diagonal. All depends on the optics of the PJ, cannot use just the specs. OP needs to look for other PJ, use calc for that PJ, and find something that will work at that throw distance if 100 inches is a hard fast spec. Last edited by ImPulSive; 12-12-2016 at 06:10 PM. |

Thanks for the advice guys
I really cant move it closer to the screen, having it mounted on the ceiling is out of the question. The only way I could maybe get it closer is having it on one of the side walls but I would think that would require something with a good horizontal lens shift or possibly have a projector with an ultra short throw and have it very close but those look a bit pricey for me. Looking at projectors that would produce a 100 inch image at 16 feet the cheapest I could find is about £1000. Was looking to spend about £500. With the sizes and distances involved do you guys think I'm priced out ? |

In late Q1 or early Q2 2017 vendors will probably start to clear out their stock to make room for the new models announced at CES. Watch for these sales, subscribe to news letters, etc. to stay informed of sales. Or check the used market. If you are only looking at new, then I'm not sure there is something in your price range. Might want to save up and wait until you have a better budget. Edit: Got mixed up between CES and CEDIA. Meant to say CEDIA which is in September of each year. With the announcements of new products there are usually price drops on existing models that follow later on. Have to keep an eye out for when new models will be coming out, that will give you a clue as to when the older ones will be cleared out. Last edited by ImPulSive; 12-12-2016 at 11:04 PM. |
