Default The Post (2017)

Quote:
Steven Spielberg will direct Tom Hanks and Meryl Streep in “The Post,” an individual with knowledge of the project told TheWrap.

The film is about the Washington Post’s role in exposing the Pentagon Papers in 1971, including how editor Ben Bradlee and publisher Kay Graham challenged their government over their right to publish them.

Fox and Amblin Entertainment will co-finance — Fox will serve as the domestic distributor, while Amblin will distribute internationally.

This project will mark the fifth for Spielberg and Hanks. They had previously collaborated on “Saving Private Ryan,” “Catch Me If you Can,” “The Terminal” and “Bridge of Spies.”

Streep voiced the blue fairy in Spielberg’s “A.I.” and is narrating the Netflix documentary “Five Came Back” which Spielberg is executive producing.

Amy Pascal’s Pascal Pictures bought the spec script by Liz Hannah last fall, so Pascal with produce alongside Spielberg and Kristie Macosko Krieger. Rachel O’Connor will executive produce along with Star Thrower Entertainment’s Tim and Trevor White, and Adam Somner.

CAA represents Spielberg, Hanks and Streep.

I grew up watching Spielberg's films, ever since Jaws terrified me in the theater at age 10. He remains my favorite film director; When this comes out, I'll be there.

I don't think so. I think they are still casting and it should start shooting in April(?).

I guess he will squeeze this one in before Indy 5.

Edgardo Mortara for this year's Oscar season and The Post for next year's Oscar season.

I loved Tom's 80's comedies. I wish he'd return to those kind of movies, but I don't see it happening.

ZZZZZzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

I wish he would go back to making fun flicks. Almost all he does now is serious dramas and the occasional lame kiddie flick. What happened to Robopocalypse?

I dunno, what about Tintin, The BFG, even War Horse? They're all a part of that family open-horizon type thing he had going on in the 70s and 80s. Just nowhere near as good.

This one sounds like a snoozefest.

Tintin and BFG were crap, and War Horse wasn't fun - it was just a mediocre drama.

You mean "fun" flicks like The Lost World and Indiana Jones & The Kingdom Of The Crystal Skull?

I'll take the BFG and Tintin. As for Lost World and Skull, Hitchcock made some clunkers in his time, but like Spielberg, even his clunkers had some amazing moments.

The Lost World is legit in my top five favorite Spielberg movies, possibly top three. Nostalgia probably "clouds" my judgment some, but it's one of few movies I could probably pop in any time and be entertained from start to finish.

Really? It was a wonderful film! On par with All the Presidents Men. Much better than that comic book/action crap they are constantly churning out nowadays!

I somehow doubt that. The Post looks more like crowd pleasing entertainment, nothing more.

So I take it you have not seen it?

If not your whole point is invalid and must be stricken from the record.
