Default CBS' "Young Sheldon" (Season 6)

CBS has officially ordered Young Sheldon to series for the 2017-2018 TV season. Young Sheldon will be a prequel of sorts to The Big Bang Theory focusing on the 9-year-old genius Sheldon Cooper as he grows up in Texas. Jim Parsons, who plays Sheldon on TBBT, will be the narrator of the show, which will star Iain Armitage as young Sheldon. Armitage is currently on the HBO miniseries Big Little Lies. Zoe Perry will play Sheldon's mother. Perry is the daughter of Laurie Metcalf, who plays Sheldon's mother on TBBT.

Lance Barber will play Sheldon’s father, and Raegan Revord and Montana Jordan will play his siblings. The first episode will be directed by Jon Favreau.

Sheldon is barely worth watching in his own show. I don't think a spin-off is warranted...

Be interesting to see if the kid will be able to pull off Sheldon's mannerisms.

This sounds truly awful. Though the casting of Laurie Metcalf's real-life daughter as his mom is pretty cool.

This won't go well. Sheldon was funny in bursts as he played off of other characters, but his (and his mom's) personality by nature is aggravating. There's only so much narcissism that can be had before it becomes annoying. To have a show all about him will be overkill and overbearing.

It'd be like if they made a FRIENDS spin-off with nothing but Joey.

On the plus side, Jon Favreau's directing. Might make an okay pilot.

No doubt I will check it out, since I love The Big Bang Theory, but I'm not crazy about it being a single-camera show. I would have preferred a traditional sitcom to keep the style of TBBT.

I've only seen a handful of TBBT and didn't think it was at all funny, so I'm not watching this... but is it actually needed? Like, is there some kind of backstory everybody needs to see or are they just trying to milk the franchise for more money?

If you saw the later seasons, I can understand why you didn't think it was funny. Check out the first 3 seasons. When Blossom entered the show, it was downhill from there. The show was funny when the guys didn't have significant others and were a bunch of desperate nerds doing a lot of nerd things and dealing with Sheldon's issues. I understand with sitcoms the characters have to evolve and change, but a show that started with the premise of making fun of four desperate nerd scientists and then they eventually make them no longer desperate (along with adding annoying female characters), the shows loses quite a bit of it's appeal and becomes more of a typical sitcom. A Sheldon prequel series might be better than the show in its current state. Getting back to young desperate nerds doing a lot of nerd things and dealing with Sheldon's issues, if well written & acted, could be good.

CBS announced their schedule and Young Sheldon got the post-Big Bang Theory slot on Thursdays at 8:30 ET. It will premiere on Monday, September 25, then be off for a little over a month until CBS is done with Thursday Night Football and start in it's regular time slot on November 2. For whatever reason The Big Bang Theory hasn't been a very good lead-in over it's life and hasn't spawned any hits so we'll see if a spin-off/prequel featuring a character from TBBT changes that.

Is it just me or did nearly every scene in that trailer have a slow zoom?

What is going on with Hollywood ? Are they deliberately trying to release garbage ?
