Default Movie Ticket Prices Hit Record High

Average movie ticket prices jumped by 3 percent in the first quarter of 2017 compared to the same period a year ago.

Not to mention the price of Concession food. If theaters start charging by the row/sections like what concert halls do, then it's gonna be crazy to go to the movies.

Thank goodness our local theater chain still has $5 Tuesdays (and a small popcorn is like $2).

The sad thing is, I'd probably still think it's a deal.

I think it used to be $4. Prices do just creep up and up all the time.

Same here, I only go on $5 Tuesdays anymore, but I suspect the price will go up this year probably.

I'm sick of everything going up all the time - I had 4 monthly bills get raised this month. My pay stayed the same.

Or things get smaller. I bought toilet paper this week at Costco. They "reshaped" the giant Charmin package yet it still has 36 rolls. But lo and behold! I get home and look at the old package, and yep - they made the rolls in the new one with 13 less sheets. So 13 X 36 = 468 sheets. They cut 2.14 rolls out of the package, and the price went up a little. **** off!

Where's Ray been? He'd feel my pain...

mine just jumped from $5 to $6, still affordable of course and it's a very nice theater with reclining leather seats, big screens in all rooms, etc...

but yeah, going to the movies has gotten a lot more expensive this last decade....

You should be THANKFUL for those concession prices AND the people willing to pay them. Without both of those things, commercial theatres would go out of business REAL fast! Studios have long since strong armed theatres into giving them nearly every penny from ticket sales. Summer blockbusters are particularly bad for this where studios demand 100% of ticket revenue for the first month (or more) of the theatrical runs of their films... or else the theatre won't get to show the film at all. Concession is 90% or more of the theatre revenue stream these days.

Ignorance, in this case, is NOT bliss.

Same here- I usually go on Marcus Tuesdays and pay $5 and get a free popcorn. Would never pay full price for popcorn, candy or pop.

Tickets at my cinema are never any less than £9, and I pay £17.99 a month for a Limitless card, so for two films worth I can see whatever I want, whenever I want and it's amazing

It's too expensive, distracting and smelly. Not to mention unhealthy. Easier for me to just focus on the movie and not shoveling popcorn or candy down my gullet or slurping up sugar water.

The theater experience is getting better and better. You can reserve your exact seat online. Big giant leather recliners. Laser projection. Dolby Atmos.

I enjoy the whole expierence. Going to the theater still feels like a big event to me. It's fun.

Add one of those Coke freestyle machines and some junior mints and I'm set.

I just thank god for the "Movie Cash" thread in the deals section...the combination of that plus theater gift cards I receive for birthdays and Christmas means I can't remember the last time I paid full price for a movie ticket. If I had to pay full price on top of train fees to get there, I'd probably see less than 20 movies per year in a theater.

The thing with me and the Movie Cash deals is either one, the employees sometimes don't know how to use it which turns a typical 1 minute transaction into 5 to 10 min transaction. Second, having my home computer and work computer flagged/banned for redeeming too many of them or when they ask for personal information like home address.

That's why I always try to arrive at the ticket counter with at least 15-20 minutes to go before the trailers start. Then again, I've been redeeming MC tickets for so long, I've pretty much singled-handedly trained the ticket takers on how to input them.

Really? I've redeemed something like fifty or sixty tickets from the Disney Movie Rewards program over the last few years (bought them for half-price from a regular member), and have never had a problem like this...I've even printed out up to ten tickets at one time. If the well of movie cash tickets dried up for me entirely, I would honestly have to limit myself to 20 "big" movies per year, or else have to tighten up my entertainment belt elsewhere.
