Default Batman v Superman Versus Captain America: Civil War - Context

Batman v Superman and Captain America: Civil War were 2016's most anticipated films and are quite similar to one another, as both films depict conflicts between heroes who are typically depicted as allies. However, whereas one of them places its story in a world that fun and entertaining, the other grounds its story in reality and thus provides an interesting deconstruction of its titular characters that teaches viewers how the world would react to their existence.

Oh god no, not again, just when I thought all this had been put to bed. Can we please not pit these two movies against each other AGAIN?!?

This is a pretty insightful and non-fanboyish comparison.

I've watched both Batman v Superman and Civil War yes. I haven't watched the above video and I don't intend to. These movies have been discussed to death on this forum and pitted against each other from day one, it's so played out and doesn't need to be dredged up again.

Places your bets on who will be the first one to attack one of the movies.

We all perceive reality differently. From what you say here, if that is what you equate to grounded in reality then I feel for you.

No need to be sarcastically insulting. Anyhow, the scenes with the Gotham residents, the television segments of the montage sequence, and Superman's visit to the Capitol Building all help to ground BvS in the real world, both socially and politically. These sorts of elements are missing from Civil War, which is why I don't think it's as realistic in regard to its setting.

I mean, neither movies is realistic. BvS can have all the scenes it wants in DC or with television segments, but as soon as Supes starts flying around I don't suddenly think I'm watching a documentary...

I like both movies quite a bit but Civil War is slightly better. Mainly because it's got 12 movies beforehand for us to get to know and care about the characters. I care about the characters in BvS too (mostly), but comparing the second movie in a franchise to the 13th movie in a franchise is kinda apples to oranges in this respect.

I like Rises much better than CW. I found CW to be a disappointing end to Cap's trilogy and it's one of my least favorite MCU movies.

Captain American: Civil War was very unrealistic. Both Captain America and Iron Man's best friends were named "James". They should have stopped fighting a lot sooner.

I'm aware that you're being sarcastic. Anyhow, what I find to be realistic about BvS are the social and political aspects of its setting; they're quite pronounced and portrayed in a way that one would expect them to be if Batman and Superman were actually real. As for "Martha," it's not the name itself that makes Batman decide not to kill Superman, but what the name indicates, which is that Supes is just a guy like himself and other human beings - a guy who has a family and emotions - a guy who's an alien but a guy nonetheless.

I love both CA:CW and BvS, but as much as I hate how people keep critically harping on the "Martha" moment, ^that^ was funny.

I dunno, I didn't find Batman vs Superman very fun or entertaining at all.
