20th Century Fox Ferdinand (2017) [No 3D Blu-ray / Digital only]

Ferdinand is released on the 15th December 2017 through 20th Century Fox. Animation by Blue Sky Studios from a story which may seem familiar... it was previously adapted into a well known (and Oscar winning) Disney cartoon short.

Quote:
FERDINAND tells the story of a giant bull with a big heart. After being mistaken for a dangerous beast, he is captured and torn from his home. Determined to return to his family, he rallies a misfit team on the ultimate adventure. Set in Spain, Ferdinand proves you can’t judge a bull by its cover. In Theaters December 15, 2017

Cast: John Cena, Kate McKinnon, Anthony Anderson, Bobby Cannavale, Peyton Manning, Gina Rodriguez, Miguel Ángel Silvestre, David Tennant, Flula Borg, Jerrod Carmichael, Daveed Diggs, Raúl Esparza, Gabriel Iglesias, Juanes, Boris Kodjoe, Karla Martínez, Jeremy Sisto and Sally Phillips Directed by: Carlos Saldanha

- with this one so close to release, I was surprised to find no existing thread in this forum. Alex NeutroNoff posted the 3D trailer way back in April. I wish studios would actually do this themselves.

December is a busy month and it may be difficult to catch a 3D release. Hope it doesn't go the same way as Trolls.

Fox doesn't seem to care about 3D blu ray anymore. I'm disappointed in them. Why make something in 3D then not sell it in 3D?

Just to get more people into cinemas, like in the days before home video.

Except that this is the 21st century and 3D TVs, projectors and VR headsets exist.

The 3D trailer played before Coco 3D.
Ferdinand's 3D looks mostly medium range. Not bad.

Any updates on this movie? I'd like to do a pre-order if a 3D version will be released.
I'm guessing yet another UK import? Actually at this point I would be grateful just to have the option to buy it from either zavvi or AmazonUK

Yes, Zavvi has been good to me. I have ordered approx. 20 + movies from them over the last year or so and never had a problem.

I like that they take paypal and shipping, (the cheapo option anyways) is pretty, well, cheap.

I bought all of the Kung Fu Panda 3D's from them as well as Cars 3 3D and Despicable Me 3 3D. Have placed a preorder for the newest Thor as well as I am not confident we will get a US release although the Marvel movies have been pretty reliable for 3D distribution. However if you don't buy one on release day or shortly thereafter you will be at the mercy of ebay sellers.

Just look at what happened to Dr Strange....

Thumbs down

Well I now see Amazon US has a preorder for this but only listing "blu-ray", "dvd" and, of course, 4K.

Anyone care to wager on the odds of a US 3D release?

It's a Fox release so I highly doubt it will be getting any 3D blu ray. I didn't even get to see this in 3D as they had zero 3D showings since Last Jedi was taking up all the screens. I had no interest to watch this in 2D and same goes for a 2D blu ray release.

I haven’t seen a 3D disc listed ANYWHERE yet. I’m afraid this is one I had better see in theaters before it’s lost to 3D heaven.

If someone finds a listing please share!

It's a Fox animated title so I'm thinking it's going to heaven with trolls unfortunately.

I sent the following email to Fox already. I’m sure it’s useless but feel free to copy, paste and send if you’d like!

I would LOVE to see your new animated film, Ferdinand, in glorious 3D, as it’s intended to be seen, but there are no 3D showtimes at any theaters near me.

Disappointed, I went online to try and pre-order Ferdinand on 3D Blu-ray but only found listings for DVD, Blu-ray and 4K Blu-ray....

Will this film get a 3D Blu-ray release in the US? If not, will other countries get a 3D release. Will it be exclusive to a particular retailer (such as Best Buy)? I will only purchase this movie if I can find a 3D version, otherwise I’ll pass.

Humans see the world in three dimensions so we should not be content with watching a flat, dimensionless film. The 3D community is very dedicated to the continuation of 3D as THE premium home video format and simply ask that you make this available on 3D Blu-ray SOMEWHERE! I’m forced to import most 3D Blu-rays from overseas these days regardless.

The Currently Unavailable bothers me, but it gives me some hope.

Reminder: Here's Trolls 3D on Amazon Mexico:

https://www.amazon.com.mx/Trolls-Blu...ords=Trolls+3D

Also: Fox tends to be Region-locked.

I don’t think it was ever released. Not a single member here owns a copy and it is not available anywhere. No trace of it. I would order in a heart beat...

What happens to modern films like Trolls that has theatrical 3D releases that never made it to home video. The studios sped significant $ and effort for these conversions so you would think they would be archived somehow or somewhere in some format. Who would have access to them and could they show up on the black or secondary market somehow?

Older films like Friday the 13th arevpreserved on film but these modern movies are all stored digitally obmy understanding.
