Nah, this is the type of production that literally pops on blu-ray, all those explosions and special effects, beautiful locales, vivid colours. A true labour of love that can only shine in HD, and definitely not some tv sitcom that's now pretty much forgotten about.

Edit: Man, I am a grumpy Gus today

If this was a complete series, I'd be interested, but I'm not going to start collecting this season by season

I can't imagine anyone is. Which means poor sales and little chance of the complete series.

I'm not 100% sold on Fabulous Film's business model. Obviously during 30 Rock's initial home video release Universal thought it wouldn't sell well enough on Blu-ray to accompany the DVD releases. But 10 years later Fabulous pick up the licence (which may or may not have been part of a bulk deal) and like their other releases they charge a premium for them.

Unfortunately I think some of these titles will have missed the sweet-spot of consumer interest (it's not a nostalgia classic like Buck Rogers in the 25th Century) and in 30 Rock's case the DVDs are £20 for the entire series and like most Universal DVD comedies they upscale quite nicely.

So this may indeed sell poorly and lead to analysts saying there's consumer apathy towards TV on Blu-ray and physical media. But that's not really true.

Hopefully this release should rectify the PAL speed up issue on the UK DVDs. Alec Baldwin was sounding all helium like.

Agree with Chip - the marketing for these is all over the place.

People are balking at £100 for five seasons of Northern Exposure, they're hardly likely to pay nearly half that for one season of another show.

IMO, they've got this 'release by season' approach all wrong. For a series like Columbo, yes, I can see the need for splitting it, with ten seasons to put out, it's too much for one release. Even then though you'd think that a logical split would be found - perhaps a seasons 1-5 set, followed by a seasons 6-10 set for example. 30 Rock, I really don't see why that has to be split at all.

By going down this route they're creating a self-fulfilling prophecy - people won't buy it because:

1. It's too expensive for one season
2. People will wait for the inevitable 'complete' set
3. People will expect poor sales and an aborted release of subsequent seasons, so why bother....?

As it stands, the only set I really wanted was Columbo. I'll pick that up. I've also pre-ordered Buck Rogers, as it's a decent pre-order price, and it's the whole series...

I think with Columbo it works quite well as separate seasons like you said, but when you get to seasons 10 and the specials interest might wane. The original '71 to '77 run is the highlight of the series to most fans.

Love to see the complete Kate Mulgrew Mr's Columbo series included too, it's not great, but the episodes I've seen have their charm.

I'd pay £20 for a season. I assume it will go down from £45 before release (the recent Quantum Leap release was initially on Amazon for the full RRP but was reduced before release and then again to price match HMV) but I imagine I'll be waiting a while for it to come down to £20.

I still have yet to see past season 1. I have the complete set which I got for £ 20. I did enjoy it however £45 for one season that's to much.

Hoo boy, 30 Rock is one of my favourite comedies, but £45 for one season is too steep even for me. I'd buy a complete box set (at a reasonable price), but not season-by-season like this.

Like everyone else here, I’d bite at a complete boxset in a heartbeat. But this is silly, releasing one season at such a high price that’ll never sell & all but guarantee they don’t release any more. Pity.

If I had an Apple TV, I'd snap that up.

I don't have one either, they have Parks and Recreation for £17.99 as well.

I'd love to have 30 Rock and Parks and Rec on BLU. Season by season for 30 Rock at a high price point may hurt future seasons.

I won't suffer digital HD versions. I'd want if FULL HD audio and video.

A mate messaged Fabulous about this release and whether they'll continue with the other seasons and after a couple weeks they finally got a response, some waffle about bluray being slow and they'll see if it sells well. Which again just highlights the silly release campaign for a show that's a few years old now and would arguably sell better had they just chucked out a complete set instead.

Oh no! Another self-fulfilling release schedule prophecy.

- We're not sure we'll release them all unless they sell well. People don't seem to jump at single season Blu-rays of complete series ...
- I'm not sure I'll buy them season by season in case they don't release them all or stop midway and release a complete set.
