12 p.m. UK time I believe is 6 a.m. EST and it shows sold out for me so I am guessing this one went quick. I already have an empty HDZ steelbook so I will just hunt down a 4K disc later on and add it to that one.

Only 500 copies apparently. I just ordered from Amazon.fr , a little more expensive but 3 discs.

Someone on HDN said, split European release. Hopefully not a cheap looking finish on this, it's such a good movie it deserves a steel to match.

J-card is made separate
Some though will be 2 Discs or 3 discs editions

A lot of steelbook releases in Europe are shared print runs have been for a good while

Zavvi got exclusive for UK
500 was mentioned allocated for UK on Twitter by SteelbookBlu-ray

It's possible closer to release date or after there might be some customer cancellations made available

Well I was sitting at my PC (at home) when the Zavvi email popped up in my MS Outlook even before the text alert to my mobile (lying on my desk). Ordered at once... only because I'd waited and waited and put off buying the film on Blu-ray (I have the old 3 disc extended US Digipak luxury DVD set) now as for the number of discs in this new 4K+2D Blu-ray Steelbook...


Zavvi website says 3, Amazon.de says the German edition (exact same Steelbook[?], presumably with same tray insert) has 2. Back on Zavvi the standard 'Amaray' pre-order says 2.


Now, are there any Ridley Scott/ Russell Crowe/ big-budget Roman epic fans on this board who similarly enthuse about that cultiest of cult low-budget, British thrillers, The Wicker Man (not the remake, oh and check out The Fall of the Roman Empire from 1964 if you haven't seen or don't know it)?


Zavvi a while back (years) unveiled a beautiful Steelbook with new specially commissioned artwork for TWM and advertised the product for pre-order as containing 3 discs, with the 3 cuts of the film. This was corrected once stock arrived but they were compelled to send out the missing 3rd disc in a paper envelope to pre-order customers.


Is Gladiator going to be the next Wicker Man missing disc fiasco?

I have the older blu release (think it was the Universal augmented reality cover version), and that is two discs. So I just imagine that this will be the same - standard blu ray & bonus features disc & 4K disc. All the features mentioned in the zavvi listing are included with the bonus disc version.

Zavvi at the moment don't list all of the Bonus Blu-ray Disc extras on the website listing

It does though list the Bonus Disc extras Strength And Honour: Creating The World Of Gladiator With Over 2 Hours Of New Content + Image & Design + Abandoned Sequences & Deleted Scenes so if these extras are not included on the Blu-ray disc you can request a bonus disc be included

Amazon/Zavvi/Hmv often list wrong the number of discs included with releases

What count's is what the description of contents says is included
As in actual listing of extras included

If this turn out to be 2 discs 4K UHD /Blu-ray only then Zavvi are covered as it does not list anything at the moment about the Bonus Disc
But is does list some of the extras that was on the Bonus Disc with previous 2 Disc Blu-ray Amaray releases

I have seen in hand photos today of the steelbook release in Czech Republic posted by Film Arena on facebook
2 Disc Hub only on the inside of the steelbook
So a 2 Disc only 4K UHD + Blu-ray release does exist unless discs are stacked

Wicker Man was different situation
StudioCanal initially themselves advertised the steelbook having all 3 cuts
UK theatrical cut, The Directors Cut The Final Cut on studioCanal website and social media and on Zavvi website
It was Studiocanal who sent the missing disc to customers not Zavvi
StudioCanal then later updated The Steelbook listing on their website to list Final Cut (Double Play) Blu-ray and DVD
Zavvi then also updated their website listing to same details

StudioCanal sent the missing disc to those that purchased before the error was corrected
The reason you got the missing disc was because StudioCanal had advertised the steelbook had all 3 cuts at various times on social media and in press releases

Meh, I just went ahead and pre-ordered the French 4K steelbook instead.

I did have my alarm set to wake me up a half hour before this damn thing was supposed to launch on Zavvi's website, but I screwed up and missed out.

Oh well, i'll probably get it sooner through Amazon.fr, though.
