![]() ![]() Shock Theater (marketed as Shock!) was a package of 52 pre-1948 classic horror films from Universal Studios released for television syndication in October 1957 by Screen Gems, the television subsidiary of Columbia Pictures. The Shock Theater package included Dracula, Frankenstein, The Mummy, The Invisible Man and The Wolf Man as well as a few non-horror spy and mystery films. A second package, Son of Shock, was released for television by Screen Gems in 1958, with 20 horror films from both Universal and Columbia. Great thread ! I have a lot of these on DVD and Blu ray (the horror titles, not a big fan of noir type stuff) and I would buy all of these if they came out. I'm kind of concerned the we haven't got the Invisible Man and the Creature sets released yet. I hear people say that piece of crap Tom Cruise movie killed any chance of these coming out but I refuse to believe that. I imagine the previous sets sold well enough. I wonder what the hold up is?

I have The Invisible Man Returns (1940) and The Invisible Man's Revenge (1944) in this German Blu-ray set: https://www.blu-ray.com/movies/Der-U...lu-ray/139922/ The cool part of that set is the music and effects audio track on The Invisible Man Returns and Abbott & Costello Meet the Invisible Man. |

Just wanted to add that the Universal Classic Monsters: The Essential Collection set was announced in late June and released in early October, and that the Frankenstein and Wolf Man sets were announced early in July for a September release. If the Invisible Man and Creature sets are coming this year and that pattern holds, we should be getting an announcement in about 4-5 weeks...fingers crossed.

I hope so, that would make very happy ! I would love to get some of the German blu-rays but I can't handle having a commentary or extras that I can't enjoy. The Giant Claw has 2 (!!!) commentaries but they are both in German without subtitles. I can't even read the awesome booklets these come with. It drives me crazy.....

I'm considering getting some of the missing ones on DVD. I didn't realize how many were Karloff films. I see Universal put out a February 2018 DVD release of:
Boris Karloff & Bela Lugosi: 4-Movie Horror Collection (Universal) ![]()
With these DVD releases, you can collect a chunk of the other movies: Universal Horror: Classic Movie Archive (Universal) ![]()
The Boris Karloff Collection (Universal) ![]()
In the above Universal Karloff Collection, Night Key is the only film in the Shock Theater list. Boris Karloff Collection - 6 Movie Set (Mill Creek) ![]()

Im pretty sure it's just some of the titles you have linked that have been released overseas. I know there is a French release of Murders in the Rue Morgue but they didn't use the original music and from what I have read, it is pretty bad....

2 more you can cross off the list very soon...
![]() The Jungle Captive and Captive Wild Woman. I don't believe Jungle Captive was ever released on Dvd and I don't think I have ever seen it. I am so happy I can get rid of my Universal Horror: Classic Movie Archive Dvd set now. I love seeing all these films finally getting released! |
