Today marks the day 25 years ago that one of the most influential movies in my life came out, Jurassic Park. It seems crazy to think that it's been 25 years. I remember seeing this at my local theater as a 9 year old boy with my dad on opening night and remember how incredible of an experience it was at the time, boy did this movie ever make a mark on me. It was absolutely mind-blowing. This movie has stood the test of time and is a TRUE all-time classic! Happy 25th JP!

Can't believe 25 years have gone by already. The impact this film has had on myself and so many countless others of my generation can not be understated; the CGI is still the most convincing I've ever seen in a film for living creatures.
I was 5 years old, and just the logo on the poster had me bouncing off the walls in anticipation to see real dinosaurs in a movie! (I was 5). My parents took me to see it the first Saturday (June 12, 1993), at a now demolished theater. We waited in a line so long that it wrapped halfway around the edge of the parking lot. Eventually, the theater manager came out and told everyone to come back later that afternoon because the theater was just too packed. We did just that, and from the tense and mysterious opening with the raptor transfer/attack on, I experienced what to that point was the greatest thing I had ever seen. The sounds, the images, the music - the entire movie was seared into my memory instantly. I spent the entire summer playing with all the Jurassic Park toys I could get my hands on, and asking my parents for anything, and I mean anything with that logo on it. The nearly year-long wait for the VHS tape was excruciating too! I then went through all of this again 4 years later over The Lost World. Jurassic Park will always remain in my top 5 films of all time. Although my dad had taken me to see Batman Returns the year before (I thought nothing could top that), Jurassic Park was what opened me to the magic and power of the movies, and made me the film-lover I am today. Thank You Steven Spielberg and Happy Birthday Jurassic Park!! |

Jurassic Park is my Star Wars.
I don't know exactly what age I was, since it seems to be impossible to find the original release date for Belgium, but it certainly was somewhere around my 11th birthday. That logo was everywhere in the months before and I was fascinated by it. When I saw that very first commercial on TV, my jaw dropped. Mouth wide open. That Dino foot pressing his print in the mud in front of that upside down car ... That's what you call iconic, right there. Also, everything was a big tease, one could actually be surprised in theatres. Remember that? When I finally saw the movie in theatres, my mind was blown away. Never before had one experienced something like this in theatres. Adults in the theatre had their mouth open. My parents couldn't shut up about how real those dinosaurs looked. My dad had Goosebumps and (amost, he said at the time, almost) tears in his eyes because of the music during the landing on the island and what came after. I clearly remember everything from that day. From how the weather was to what music was on and how the theatre smelled.JP made a gigantic impression. It was also the movie that made me fall in love with soundtracks. I already was fascinated by film music as a young kid, but it's JP that learned me there was something like a composer and a movie score separated from the movie. Till that point I didn't know you could actually buy those. I already had the Panini sticker book and stuff for school (pencase and so), but Christmas of 1993 was crazy. I have some pictures from the three and the wrapped packages under it ... After all the years I can still point in what box that giant T-Rex was. Man, those dino's, the quality ... Not since He-Man was I obsessed with toys that much. 1 year later I got JP on VHS for my birthday in October. (together with Free Willy) Watched it over and over again. On this day, I can still be impressed with how real and believable every single aspect of those dinosaurs look. It's nothing less than amazing. Thank you Steven Spielberg! |

Haha, exactly! That just speaks to how great this film was that two people an ocean away had virtually the same exact experience and impact on their lives! I think I still have that same sticker book and the coloring book with the t-Rex biting the tire of the explorer on the cover too.

Honestly, I like it more now than I did as a kid when it came out. I dont know why but thats how it is. One of may favs. And, while its nice that it came out in UHD recently.... the REAL way to watch this movie is in 3D! The conversion is excellent and gives the film such a realistic look & feel. Its one of the best 3D experiences Ive ever had at home.
Happy 25th, JP! ![]() |

I don’t know what I’ve seen more since I was a kid, Jurassic Park, Toy Story, or The Lion King, but I do know that they were the holy trinity when I was just a sprout on Mandalore. I didn’t even realize the annniversary was today, and I just watched it yesterday. Happy 25th

^ ^ Indeed brilliant ![]() 2 things especially come to to mind when thinking back on this classic in 1993. I remember I was awestruck at the cinema by the so realistic-seeming dinosaurs and thrills in this film which were so exciting it made people jump in the seats beside me.. ..and then coming home to read next day's newspaper critical review of the movie which got a rating of 1(!) star ('Jurassic Park was effect-ridden garbage' according to the critic) in one of our biggest national newspapers which pissed me off to the degree that I wrote a piece to the newspaper praising this (at the time) landmark movie in its genre and telling off the critic who obviously had no sense when it came to entertainment-movies. The written piece was printed on a 'feedback' page (people could give their views on various matters) in the paper some days later which pleased me. The movie was, thankfully, reviewed more deservedly (imo) in other papers I recall, but that first review really and truly ticked me off I remember ![]() Congrats with the 25, JP! |

25 years! I was 11 when I watched this in the theater back in 1993 and it blew me away (scared the crap out of me too). This movie made a lasting impression on me and it still remains one of my very favorite movies even 25 years later.
Will watch the UHD blu-ray this weekend to celebrate! ![]() |

This movie is a genuine masterpiece. I’m glad to see it getting so much admiration in this thread. Part of its magic was definitely in the breathtaking animatronics which really managed to bring these dinosaurs to life. Spielberg and company did a terrific job.
