Fox UV Status Change Effective 07/11/18

07-10-2018, 03:33 PM

As of 07/11/18, Fox titles that are Movies Anywhere-eligible are no longer eligible for UltraViolet. If you purchase, redeem (eCopy, InstaWatch), or convert (Disc to Digital) a Movies Anywhere-eligible title, you will continue to receive the digital copy in your Vudu library. In addition, if you connect your Vudu account with Movies Anywhere, you will receive a digital copy in your Movies Anywhere library. To learn more about Movies Anywhere, visit https://www.vudu.com/content/moviesanywhere

...if it's MA but added via " redeem (eCopy, InstaWatch), or convert (Disc to Digital)" will it still port to other providers though is the question?

I wonder how many people's sales lists will need to be changed for all of those Fox titles that are currently UV/MA but will only be MA starting tomorrow?

So this really only affects the older titles, correct? Since the newer titles are already MA only.

Correct. I do think people who are holding onto codes that say UV on them, might have a problem if they aren't redeemed prior to tomorrow; I would assume that if redeemed tomorrow that they would be MA only.

What would really be great is if Vudu would create their own family/friend sharing system so we wouldn't have to worry about uv or ma or any other new thing a studio might feel like throwing out in the future. I see people keep talking about whether digital might take over and personally I don't see that happening with how fickle the studios and digital retailers are it has made digital movie collecting a frustrating confusing mess.

So will these titles continue to share with our family members since we bought them while they were uv or will they stop sharing tomorrow?

I believe they will continue to share because they were already purchased/owned so they are already in the shared accounts.

Knew it was coming, but didn't expect it to be with only a day's notice.

Still have some FOX titles I haven't D2D that I was hoping to share with family/friends. I guess not.

The FOX movies are still giving UV status at the moment. I converted quite a few and they are in my UV library.

I wonder if this will include Fox distributed MGM titles which aren't MA compatible or if those will stay UV....

MGM handles digital distribution themselves, Fox only has physical distribution.

Bummer. I suspect things will only get worse from here once Disney gets their claws into Fox's offerings.

I wondered when this would be happening. I redeemed an old Fox code the other day and I noticed the FoxRedeem.com webpage ONLY gave an option for MA. No Vudu, no iTunes (which is what I really wanted). My main wonder now is if the d2d/m2d program is still going to be able to continue since it seemed specifically tied to titles that had UV rights only...

Also does anyone happen to have a list of Fox titles that are currently eligible? I feel like the different sheets I've seen don't seem to list distributor (feel free to PM me please if this isn't a publicly allowed convo)

I might do more later on, but did a quick check on the IOS apps of a couple Fox titles which I had through UV family share as well as a couple redeemed on CinemaNow, and they are still there in VUDU and MA no problem. I think the only real worry is people will lose films if UV closes, but that pretty much doesn't seem to be the case (I also expected that as I have Don Jon from Relativity Media via UV family share, and that's long since lost UV status but is still in my VUDU).

Ultimately, I don't think this is a big deal then, as VUDU was the only UV retailer left for these movies and I do prefer the MA video services anyway. Sure, not getting family share for future purchases on catalog Fox films is a bit annoying, but since it has been that way for new Fox releases for many months and some MA services have their own family share features, I don't think it is too much of an issue.

Filled in a few gaps for now but hoping that D2D/M2D sticks around for a while, even if the titles are MA only. Today's adds brings my Vudu total up to 2071 movies.

Going to use the Chrome "Vudu Catalog" Addon to take a quick inventory in case things go sideways tomorrow so I have something to refer to besides my personal spreadsheet.
