When it comes to puns, I can cut the mustard.

BTW: yes, I am manically depressed, a condition which often causes the use of puns. I'm not exactly A1 at the moment...

The above pun a bit obscure in the UK, and something for any Americans looking in

I'd love to have a disc that has the original colour timing and another one that has the THX DVD's colour timing.

Don't get me wrong, I love the film with all my heart like almost every title in John Carpenter filmography, but is there yet something more to offer from the classic? I mean really. There's been so many formats, so many extras, and so great mount of money which has been spended to this one that I highly suspect there's room for more. I don't mean to sound like dick.

This is a UK release. It's the US that's had endless re-releases over 40 years. I understand importing is not a big thing across the pond.

You don't sound like a dick. Here in the UK Halloween did seem to get endless DVD re-releases back when it was with Anchor Bay, probably not as many as they did with Evil Dead (I can think of 7 versions) but enough to get annoying.

Don't know the state of the HD scan(s) of this film so maybe there's room for improvement there but as you say, do we need yet more bonus material? IMO no.

Either way, this is a film I admire more than enjoy repeated viewings of so even if this had as rumoured come from Arrow Video it'd still be a pass from me.

I think it's more that as this title regularly goes OOP, when a new edition does come out it's not necessarily a case of must upgrading to the new version, but that it is the only one available to buy at that time. Obviously it has its fans who will upgrade regardless, but it does seem to deliberately disappear from sale quite regularly.

I really wish the UK could get a complete Halloween set like the US has, on top of a Friday the 13th one.

This. I'm not region free yet and the cost of the 15 disc SF edition is a LOT. Compared to some other franchises, the Halloween films have never really been given a great treatment on UK bluray releases (the steelbook edition aside).

The most recent Friday the 13th set that's been released in the States will play on a U.K Blu Ray player, and it isn't expensive. I agree though; I don't see why we don't have our own releases over here

I'm still inclined to think that there's some sort of issue around the UK licenses for II and III. As we've said, if there weren't then surely someone would have snapped them up by now.
As Universal had released the US Blu-ray, perhaps they licensed their master but also had to get the UK rights for a release from High Fliers. I also agree there must be rights issues of some kind relating to II and III. It all seems a bit of a missed opportunity for the 40th anniversary and the release of the new film. We only have the cinema re-release and the Lionsgate 4K/BD release of the original. The only Halloween films available on Blu-ray in the UK are 1, 4 ,5 and 10 so a box set would have been a big seller. Even a boutique release of II or III or a box set with the 3 Miramax titles.

That is a very low price for a new release. I can only guess they want to shift as many copies of this as possible to cash in on the new film. Hopefully it's also a good transfer and upgrade on the previous discs.

I saw that earlier today. Annoyingly I ordered it in the 5 for £30 offer just yesterday, but I've emailed HMV to ask if I can cancel it and re-order it at the £4.99 price. I might wait for a review first to see if it's a different transfer to the 35th Anniversary disc (Anchor Bay), which I already have.
