I'm trying to add https://www.imdb.com/title/tt3696498/ (German film) to the database.
The thing is, there's also a Japanese film with the same title. https://www.blu-ray.com/Bittersweet/862481/ So when I try to submit the German film, it returns this: "Duplicate: this title already exists with the same year in the database. If you still want this title added, then contact Deciazulado." So I went to PM Deciazulado...and what do I get? "Deciazulado has chosen not to receive private messages or may not be allowed to receive private messages. Therefore you may not send your message to him/her." ![]() |

My sympathies. I've encountered that many times too. And you're right that there's no good way to actually contact Deciazulado.
In this situation I see that the German one is BitterSüß at IMDb, while the Japanese one is Bitter Sweet. Have you tried adding the German one as BitterSüß or Bitter Sweet? I would have thought that the system would have recognized the difference? Since it's at IMDb as BitterSüß then I would think that would be the way to go, and would work. But if not, then you might try adding it as BitterSüß (Bitter Sweet), which should allow the system to recognize it as a different enough title than the existing Japanese entry. |

Since the German title is BitterSüß, I put Bittersweet in the US title box. That's what the system bases the duplicate screening off of even though I put the country of origin as Germany. Yeah, if I put BitterSüß in the US title it'd accept it but that's not the true US translated title.
![]() Since the Japan one theoretically should be 'Bitter Sweet' and not 'Bittersweet' like it currently is, I guess updating that one's title would work once that change is approved. Still, kind of a funny error message. It's almost as if they don't want us to reach them. ![]() |

That's true. Though I've always sort of thought that IMDB has whatever the US title is supposed to be, even if it's in a foreign language? Usually the IMDb title is in English, but of course there are exceptions, such as here. Obviously I'm not an expert. I do know that having a title here that doesn't match IMDb can make it harder to sometimes figure out who certain People are, for those of us working with Cast & Crew. But of course that isn't the main priority.
That makes sense to change the Japanese one, good luck to you on getting a quick approval. I guess maybe it's funny from some perspectives, or they don't think of it? Maybe in a way it's trying to encourage us to figure these things out for ourselves? Although I've seen some members submit some very odd things (of course I've made some mistakes myself), so there's a danger with leaving us to find our own solutions too. ![]() |
