Default Mutant X (2001-2004)

They just added this to Amazon Prime Video. I used to love this show. I didn't realize it was created by Avi Arad. With all the Marvel shows on now, this one would be interesting to watch again.

I kind of remember the lawsuit that happened:

Quote:
On April 15, 2001, 20th Century Fox sued Marvel, Tribune Entertainment, and Fireworks Entertainment for breach of their licensing agreement and false advertisement. Fox stated it had exclusive rights from Marvel to develop the X-Men property, and anything similar was an infringement. Fox claimed that Mutant X was too similar to X-Men, and Mutant X was being advertised as an "X-Men replacement."

Marvel countersued Fox, saying that the two were dissimilar and asking the courts to allow Mutant X production to go forward. Production was allowed, as long as X-Men material was not used in the promotion of Mutant X.

On March 9, 2003, Fox and Marvel resolved their differences in a confidential settlement of their suits. Meanwhile, Fox continued to pursue their case against Tribune and Fireworks. Tribune sued Marvel for fraud and breach of contract, claiming Marvel encouraged Tribune to connect Mutant X to the X-Men, misrepresented what they were getting in their license, and caused millions in losses due to the need to alter storylines and characters to ensure the mandated distance between Mutant X and X-Men, as well as fighting Fox's litigation.[
The effects look cheesy now, but still fun.

I remember watching it but I don't really remember much about the storylines, but that's how it was for most things I watched when I was that young. I didn't know it was from Marvel though.

I'll probably end up watching it on PV, it's also been out on BD in the UK for nearly 2 years too.

I liked Mutant X back then. It wasnt that bad. It was the typical WGN/TBS show with the typical WGN TBS special effects just like Hercules, Andromeda and Xena.'

Also the show Alphas reminded me of Mutant X

It was crap then and it's probably even crapper now. Beautiful cast, nothing else going for it. Cheap rip-off and cynical coattail riding on Marvel/Tribune/Firework's part.

I didn't think it was that bad. This and Dark Angel were my faves at the time.

But Dark Angel was never part of Marvel not sure why compare it but Dark Angel also went through a law suit regarding plagiarism based on a French comic book if I remember correctly that is one of the reasons the show ended that way.

This shows got a Firefly type treatment lets not forget Almost Human but we were all lucky for Fringe to survived.

Got the complete series at Walmart for $50.

Back when it was on TV I know I watched the first season.
Can't recall, but I think it got lost due to changing it's time slot or something. So I don't recall watching the last two seasons.

So I was going through season three and boy did they really change it in season three.

In the final episode of the series, who exactly was "The Creator"?

Sad how Fox early days treated X-Men stories especially as TV series I have completely forgotten this show even existed and didn't Fox also make a Nick Fury series with David Hasselhoff back in the day also which lasted few episode if not mistaken.

Fox had nothing to do with Mutant X. Marvel did. As a matter of fact, Fox sued Marvel because Mutant X was in breach of the contract that Marvel had with Fox over the X-Men license. Marvel tried to redefine "mutants" and get away with having a television show with Fireworks and Tribune Entertainment while Fox still maintained the screen rights to mutants.

edit: I just realized this all better stated in the original post of this thread..

I saw the complete series of this on DVD in Walmart earlier today. It's overpriced IMO though (49.99)

Sorry about the necro, but does anyone know whether this collection has any extras? https://www.blu-ray.com/dvd/Mutant-X...es-DVD/172877/

Each individual season pack had tons of extras (BTS, interviews, featurettes) and I'd like to know whether they kept those in this all-series collection.
