United Kingdom Murder, She Wrote - 8 October 2018

Quote:
A new chapter begins as Season One of TV s most popular and widely acclaimed detective series, Murder, She Wrote, comes home to Blu-ray for the first time ever, now fully restored and in high definition! Angela Lansbury stars in the role that earned her 12 consecutive Emmy® nominations as everyone s favourite super-sleuth, Jessica Fletcher, a famous mystery writer who has a knack for solving murders on and off the page. Along with the quirky residents of Cabot Cove, Maine, Jessica is joined in her deliciously suspicious tales of mystery and mayhem by some of the most celebrated guest stars of screen and stage, including Jerry Orbach, Leslie Nielsen, Joaquin Phoenix, Andy Garcia, Martin Landau, Milton Berle, Peter Graves, Vicki Lawrence and many more. Investigate all 22 Season One episodes including the suspenseful original pilot movie, The Murder of Sherlock Holmes, of the illustrious and thrilling series that will have you guessing whodunit until the very end.

Fantastic that these shows are coming to Blu-ray, but Fabulous really need to look at pricing. I think most fans would be happy to pay £20 a season for a staggered release.

Especially when there's more than ten seasons.

Agreed. If they get a hold of ER, I'd never be able to afford it. I think I'll have to wait a bit then to actually pick up these releases.

Very exciting and I would love to import this, but could not agree more that £40 is way too much for me. I can't see paying £520 for the entire series (12 seasons plus the movies assuming they bother with them). If it hits about £20, I am in.

Nostalgia overload. I binged the whole series with my wife a few years back when they were still on Netflix. I was tempted to pick up the recent French version (the first season is €29.99 on Amazon.fr) and i'm glad this is getting a UK release but that price is gonna have to come on down...

Since it has six discs, I wonder if this means Fabulous are going back to lossless audio. The French Blu-rays supposedly have lossless but also obviously have a dub track and are four disc sets.

If Fabulous' seasons have lossless, I will buy all of them. Hopefully, this is the case.

Price is too high. Over $2 an episode.

When the price comes down closer to $1 an episode, I'll be more inclined to buy.

Can I just ask you all, when you see a new release coming out and you see the pre order price is too high or maybe the release day price is too high.....what makes you think that is the fault of the company behind the disc? Okay Amazon have this up for £39.99. How do you know they aren't paying £8 per season and are deciding to make a £32 profit on each sale? Same with any other retailer like HMV or Zavvi or Tesco or Asda. They could be paying a few quid for each film and making 4x the money back on profit. It could be the people selling you these releases just want to make as much money off you as possible.

That’s not how it works. Fabulous themselves are the ones that set the prices. Amazon doesn’t dictate prices to manufacturers, they let them decide what price to sell the item at. Same with brick and mortar shops. While they get leeway with reducing items and so forth, the manufacturer sets the RRP, not the shop.

Quick question: do Fabulous subtitle their TV shows on BD? Have they ever subtitled anything?

That's even worse then. How can they expect the general public to pay those kinds of prices. It doesn't cost them anywhere near that to produce these discs.

We don't know how much they've paid for the licenses. It may be that the high prices are reflective of them paying Universal over the odds - they need to make a profit on these.

That being said though, it's just as likely, perhaps more so, that FF are just being (incredibly) greedy. Especially considering that MC have licensed some of these in the US and can afford to knock them out at a fraction of the price and still turn a profit....
