Default Sony PlayStation Classic - Out Now!

It’ll be out on December 3 in the US and Canada, and includes games like Final Fantasy VII, Jumping Flash, Ridge Racer Type 4, Tekken 3, and Wild Arms. There’ll be 20 bundled titles in total, but those five are the only ones announced at the moment.

Annoyingly, like the SNES Classic, the PlayStation Classic won’t include an AC adaptor, with the only power option being a bundled USB cable.

The PlayStation Classic will include two original PS1 controllers and a HDMI cable, and cost US$99.99 (€99.99 in Europe).

I guess they want to build hype surrounding the final list. I appreciate how Nintendo was transparent right away with both NES and SNES Classics lol.

My SNES Classic came with an AC adapter though, yet the Internet says it didn't.

I'll guess Syphon Filter and Metal Gear Solid are on there. I wonder if MediEvil would be, considering the PS4 remake on the way.

You just CANT make a ps mini without at least 1 resident evil and 1 tomb raider. Until I see those 2 in the lineup not biting. Its like Nintendo announcing the nes classic without Mario and Zelda, dont deny it.

I'm kind of on the fence about this. Really cheap not to include an AC adapter.

Hope there will be some third-party wireless controller options, like we saw with the NES/SNES Classics.

Apparently, it's not expandable (i.e. hackable) like the NES/SNES Classics, but we'll see... Maybe someone will find a way.

The NES/SNES didn't include an adaptor either, although our house isn't short of plugs with the amount of phones and other devices that use usb wall plugs.

I didn't even use a plug for the snes I just put the usb in to my t.v. for the power which is way more convenient.

I'd like to see some optional dual analogue controllers, but the fact it can't be hacked isn't really a downside is it. The NES/SNES weren't either but look what happened there. Sony won't advertise an illegal activity for the device.

The trouble with this vs the Nintendo ones though is the game file sizes. Some of these games were over 1gb compared to the mb of NES SNES.

Of course not, but they are actively advertising that it isn't possible - at least according to this.

We shall see if someone finds a way. Not a downside for me, in any case, as I never bothered "hacking" the NES/SNES Classics.

Are you sure? I could have sworn an AC adapter was included - but my memory could be playing tricks on me - I'll check tomorrow.

USB-powered does sound fine.

Sony might install the games in .pbp format, which compresses the file size and combines multi-disc games into one single file.

I’m interested to know how much storage it has, but we won’t know until someone “opens it up”. It will probably be either 16GB or 32GB.

Yep, positive the mini just came with a USB, for sure the EU ones only came with a USB.

The highest age rating of the known games is FFVII which is a PEGI 16 rating. So hopefully that means silent hill or resi will be in.

I wonder if they would include GT though since there's already a racer listed. I bet the licensing rights would be a nightmare for it too what with the soundtrack and all the cars.

If they find a way the I doubt there will be much free space at all for adding roms. For 1 PS game you could probably fit the entire SNES library.

Didn't the snes only have 300mb of free space which was supposed to be used for saves etc which they saved the roms to instead?

If Sony do the same and have space for save files of 20 games they would only need 3mb max. Most games only used 1 block of memory and a 1mb memory card had 15 blocks. So depending on the rest of the games they announce 3mb would probably be more than enough.

Obviously they would probably have more memory than that but let's say it was 300mb like the Mini then you'd struggle to get games on there.

Going to be interesting to see what can be done.

I hope the original Metal Gear Solid, Resident Evil, and Tomb Raider are included.

I am very curious to see all 20 games. PlayStation 1 is one of the best video game consoles of all time, and certain games (like the ones I mentioned) are among the best PlayStation 1 games.

20 isn't particularly a high number, and that makes me curious. Silent Hill would be a great addition. I can't wait to see the full list. Hopefully it doesn't disappoint.

I thought there were 20 games installed, with more to be released?

Announced so far:
Final Fantasy 7
Jumping Flash
Ridge Racer Type 4
Tekken 3
Wild Arms

Not interested myself, but is it usual for the games on these "mini's" to be fixed with no option to install more?

There will be 20 installed, 5 announced with rest to be announced at a later date.

None of the Nintendo mini consoles have let you buy more roms to play. You're stuck with the 20 they give you unless you hack it and add your own.

I guess no one in their market research groups rates it high on their priority so Sony thinks so.

I will say that people will buy this who would never buy these games on the PS4. They will just buy it for the novelty of the design and collection purposes.

I have to admit I'm not terribly excited about any of the announced games.

I've lost count of how many times I've played FFVII.

I am surprised they did it this year though, 24th anniversary this December. Maybe they have something bigger for the 25th anniversary. Like the PS5.

I’ll be skipping this one.
The original classic discs still play in my ps3 and I already bought bunch of digital classic games from psn stores to play in my ps3 too.

I can’t think of any titles that I want to play but don’t have already.

I still have the original PSX and it works (I left it with my brother-in-law; he's a gamer, much like me ).

That said, I will be picking up the PlayStation Classic (I was pretty much sold with the inclusion of R4: Ridge Racer Type 4 and the $99 price point; everything else is gravy).
