Default The Primevals - Full Moon Indiegogo Campaign

https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/d...JTnpO0HB9mYs#/

Quote:
The year was 1994. Full Moon founder Charles Band and legendary stop-motion animation effects artist David Allen set out to make what would be the biggest and most ambitious Full Moon movie to date--a long in development passion project of Allen's that he directed in Romania and the Italian Alps with a large cast and larger than life sets.

Band and Allen planned for a long post-production period in which Allen would create hundreds of intricately designed and animated effects shots. But when Allen fell ill and passed away in 1999, the highly anticipated film sat unfinished, with Full Moon fans all over the world wondering if they would ever be able to see Allen's now-mythical magnum opus.

That time has come.

Finally, after decades in the vault, Full Moon is launching a campaign to release David Allen’s THE PRIMEVALS and we’re calling on our fans to help fulfill David’s vision and bring this larger-than-life-retro-sci-fi epic to lustrous life.

Finishing THE PRIMEVALS exactly how David had envisioned it to look and feel, would require - by today's standards - a Herculean post-production budget that we simply do not have access to. And while completing the picture will require some compromises, we nevertheless plan to deliver a version that is as close to David’s ambitious, grandiose design as possible, based on the resources that have and will become available to us.

You NEED to see what has been filmed. And you WILL.

When released, THE PRIMEVALS Special Edition Blu-ray set will feature two alternate edits of the film. The first will be the new, completed cut overseen by producer Charles Band. The second will be the "director’s cut"-- faithfully assembled as David Allen intended and containing special animatic storyboards representing the unrealized shots from THE PRIMEVALS. Both films will make for a fascinating comparative study, creating the definitive THE PRIMEVALS experience. A third disc will premiere a feature-length THE PRIMEVALS documentary from Daniel Griffith of Ballyhoo Motion Pictures loaded with never before available behind the scenes and archival footage from the many years of this film’s amazing journey.
It sounds like a pretty cool project to get behind. The price for the Blu-ray is putting me off though, and I see no mention of the limited edition version being exclusive to the Indiegogo campaign.

I remember first reading about this project in the late 70's in Cinefantastique magazine. I'd really like to see whatever finished version of this movie but $100 for the Blu-ray is outrageous and after being burned a few too many times on these kind of crowd funding campaigns the last few years, it's a no go for me.

$100 just for the Blu-ray...that's Charles Band for you, folks.

I still have that issue of CFQ and remember reading the entire article back then. It would be great to see the film finished, even using recently shot stuff, but at $100 a pop, I'm also out. I also hate to admit that their newly created trailer doesn't do potential sales any favors. The stop-motion footage looks great, but everything else with the actors and such looks like grade-Z schlock, not that there's anything wrong with grade-Z schlock. It's just that the trailer shows so much of that, and shows enough of the stop-motion as well, that I feel like I've already seen enough.cfqprimevals.jpg

Yeah, despite my love of classic stop-motion animation, the clips, especially the live action stuff made it look on the level of Planet Of The Dinosaurs (which is fun, don't get me wrong). And maybe I'm a bit jaded regarding costs these days, but it seems $200K is no where near enough to finish this film.

I would be shocked if this was successful. There should have at least been a $40 Bluray option. $175,000 is a high number to shoot for with those fairly expensive perks. It’s really the wrong time of year for this sort of thing as well. People are stretching their finances for Christmas. I don’t see this being a success unless a private investor comes in. Also, what happened to all of Charles Band’s money? Why can’t he invest in his own projects?

I assume they've priced the Blu-ray high because they need as much money as they can get to properly finish the film. But still - throw in a poster and some extra stuff with it to justify the price.
They would have to sell almost half of the 300 limited to reach their goal, but I'm not sure if 150 people would buy it at that price. If they were priced at $50, they might could get 200 people with good word of mouth to buy it but that wouldn't reach their goal.

If it was $30 - $40 I'd probably contribute, but no way to $100 + shipping.

I don't see them coming close to the goal doing it like this either. If they had a more reasonable perk they'd probably do well.

Full Moon will be doing a wide release of The Primevals on January 21st. Like the Indiegogo release, It'll be a 3-disc set, with the theatrical cut, the David Allen cut, and the Lost to Time documentary.

Hmmmm....where did they announce the 3 disc version? Guess I'll cancel my Amazon pre-order for the 1-disc coming out next week.

It was just added to MVD's B2B (for retailers) site. It should be listed at Amazon, and others eventually.
