On this image it says that it supports 1080@60p but i thought the top was 1080@24p?
Sony BDB-S1 If true will the maximum forBlu-ray Disc be 1080/60 @ 40 MB/s for H.264 and 18 MB/s for 7,1 DTS HD Master Audio/7.1 PCM Uncompressed? My first post! |

Thanks for the welcome!
Wow 288 mbps!! Is that within the BD spec?? But can a movie be stored as 1080 @ 60p? or do they just upconvert? Thanks in advanced. |

However most movies only have 24 frames per second so any more than that would just be duplication which is a waste of space. If there was a source with 60 true independent frames it could be encoded and stored that way. That said, they would need to be sure that there was a mechanism to 'downconvert' that to 1080i, etc for those that can't use 1080p interface. That is the only issue that I would see... |

Well Im thinking For TV making it would be smart to shoot in 1080 @ 60p, 4:4:4 and 48 bit RGB for a good master. And It could easy be coverted to 1080 @ 60/25i US/EURO. But the if it could be stored with 60 unique frames per second can all BD players play it? Is the hardware powerful enough?? I.e. IS 1080 @ 60p within the BD specification Btw I love this forum! |

There is no technological reason why masters of TV and other recordings cannot be done in 1080p/60. While the specs for this are not included in the U.S. "Grand Alliance" they are included under the ITU specs. However... and this is the big "gotcha" at the moment ... I know of no company currently shipping chipsets which record 1080p/60. I expect them within the next year or so. Then we may actually see recordings done at this resolution and frame rate. |
