Yeah, I'm aware. I'm a proud owner of two 2016 LG OLEDs and I will hang onto them until they die. I'd love to upgrade to a newer OLED, but I love 3D too much and I'm not about to render my 200+ 3D Blu-rays useless.

Anyways, the 2019 models look stunning. Very curious to see the pricing on the R9 and Z9. I'm sure they'll be out of reach for most people.

Tell those morons at LG to stop removing features that provide a unique viewing experience.

My few year old OLED can still burn my retinas if I have the brighness up...the notion they got rid of 3D for the sake of a few nits is absurd.

See, i don't like this attitude and it's not a personal attack or anything but it's the idea that after years and years of making 3D this big thing and STILL supporting it in theatrical releases and "regular" Blu Ray 3D, manufacturers are refusing to include 3D capscibilities in their TVs despite the fact that it's actually very possible and from what i understand, not massively cost intensive.

So just bloody well offer the damn feature! It means those who want it can use it and keep compatibility with all the Blu Ray players that do 3D that csn still be used on new TVs. It's the forced removal without good reason i don't like.

I'm on the side of '3D is just a money making gimmick'. I was a projectionist at a theater and we would regularly get memos from studios asking for more 3D showtimes, or 3D showtimes in general. Some of them would even say things along the lines of 'Preliminary numbers for _____ aren't looking good, so please try and add a couple more 3D showtimes to help increase total ticket sale numbers.'

Sometimes they'd send us over a 2D only hard drive, and after the movie didn't do as well as planned opening weekend, they would express ship us a 3D hard drive and ask us to add 3D showtimes into the rotation. They just want (need) that extra $3.00 per ticket..

See, i feel you're letting that experience taint how consumers can enjoy 3D content as a choice with how some companies use it as a money making method. Consumers are being forced to keep older TVs with 3D or upgrade to 4K and HDR features rather than be able to enjoy both like they should.

There's really no valid reason why manyfacturers aren't releasing it anymore on high end TVs and it further stumps me why the studios are releasing the content in 3D on home release if they're not gonna pressure manufacturers to keep it included for their customers that still do buy what they're releasing.

A part of me wonders if this is a ploy to let "regular" 3D die quietly and re-introduce it with that glasses free 3D tech that's been rumoured about for a few years now. Then they'll start using it as a buzz feature for consumers until the next "gimmick" is found which is how they seem to have treated 3D.

It might be a gimmick but I sure like it. That’s all that matters - some do like it. It’s silly to not include it on ANY of the TVs when the tech is simple. At least include it on one model.

Did you own a 2016 OLED before you got your NON-3D one? The OLED 3D experience is far better than I've seen in a theatre (which are also rarely calibrated and displayed correctly)

I'm still buying 3D movies that I've never seen before just to have them. Still waiting for Friday the 13th Part 3 to finally come out on a real 3D blu ray. I have 2 OLEDs and 2 Plasmas with 3D. I'm keeping them. It's a feature that costs a couple bucks to put in the tv. Pretty ridiculous it's not still a feature.

No, but I have a 1080P 240Hz LCD LG 3D TV that I bought about six or so years ago when I thought 3D was going to be the next big thing. I bought a couple 3D Blu-rays too, but watched maybe one? I'm just not a fan.

I don't think it makes anything look better, and I hate the gimmicky parts of it, like someone's hand flying out of the screen at you. I still have the TV, only because it's worth next to nothing now, and it's in my bedroom and used maybe once every few months (but not for 3D).

It depends on what "big thing" means to you. If by "big thing" it's where every single movie ever released comes in 3D and every single movie made is backdated and converted to 3D, then no. It's not a "big thing" because we know 2D movies in 1080p and 4K are what dominates.

However, if by "big thing" we're talking about major multiple movies released theatrically in 3D and on home release by major studios and supported through hardware manufacturers and Blu Ray specifications, then yeah, it's a "big thing" and more than just a "niche".

If 3D was only available in theatres and select ones and on select movies, i'd easily say it was never a potent enough feature to be cared about. However we are talking about millions of TVs that were made 3D between 2010 until recently and a whole slew of catalogue releases in 3D home release that are simply abandoned. Can you imagine if you had a high end TV from say 2016 that displayed 3D almost as perfect as it could be broke and you had no other equivalent alternstive to enjoy what you possibly paid thousands of (insert currency) for and were now unable to enjoy that at the sale quality?

Manufacturers have essentially caused a collapse in 3D by no longer supporting it on high end or premium TVs and this filtered down the entire OLED range.

3D is a big thing in most commercial movie theaters. However some commercial movie theaters that showed 3D movies all year round, in the last few years there are some small commercial movie theaters that show only 2D movies only. 3D is very popular with Dolby Cinema theaters and IMAX theaters.


When it comes to the home market, 3D has always been a niche videophile feature and is currently only offered on high-end DLP projectors and other projectors. People that enjoy 3D at home found out that 144Hz DLP is King of 3D because of no ghosting with no eye strain.


Between the years 2010-2016 some flat panel screens offered 3D features, but the 3D quality was poor with eye strain on many flat panel models.
