Default Vudu/UV Issues - Let's get them fixed!

Vudu UV Issues

I am creating this post on behalf of Ashley L from Google Plus and MeWe

Quote:
As you are all aware UV is shutting down in July. There are a lot of issues we need addressed before then so we don't lose content in our digital movie collection
Here is the link to a spreadsheet from @Zu Nim with all the issues we have found so far. If you have anything else to add please post it in the comments with all the info or sent me a chat here: https://mewe.com/profile/5bbcb4a8a5f4e532eb8981fd

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets...it?usp=sharing

@Rex Strother posted on twitter and vudu. Please comment, like, reshare, etc.

https://twitter.com/LowlightsRex/sta...13701754568704

https://forum.vudu.com/forum/vudu/ge...eed-addressing

Let's see if we can get some of these fixed so we don't lose them forever

What is the point of the title "The Death of Superman (2018)" being on the list?

It lists the original retailer as FandangoNow, but if that's the case, it wouldn't have given UV rights since the title is MA on FandangoNow.

If the point is to have VUDU add the title so a person can redeem UHD UV codes on VUDU in order to gain UV rights for those with shared libraries, then you need to add the other DCAU 4K films not available in UHD on VUDU:
  • "Batman: Gotham By Gaslight"
  • "Suicide Squad: Hell To Pay"
  • "Batman: Assault On Arkham"
  • "Batman: The Killing Joke"
  • "Justice League Dark"
  • "Justice League: Throne Of Atlantis"
  • "Reign Of The Supermen"

Otherwise, it's presence makes no sense.

I'm assuming shared libraries are also some of the reasons why there are multiple titles on the list that list the original retailer as FandangoNow, which means they should not only be in one's primary FandangoNow library and therefore port to MA?

Edit: Something, something... wasn't aware of the focus on family sharing... something.

The whole list looks pretty bogus containing many, many, even a majority of titles not at all impacted by UV shutdown. Titles that are Movies Anywhere eligible will be preserved in Movies Anywhere. Listing out ALL the Universal films available in UHD only on FandangoNow (but port into Movies Anywhere) is bogus and confusing, listing Warner Brother titles is irrelevant, etc. I know the people making the list are volunteers who probably mean well but it's very confusing and over-exaggerates problems. We want all titles in the highest format available in all vendors, but adding them to a list to artificially make it seem like a problem related to UV closing is inappropriate advocacy contrary to the point.

Seemingly the UV closure only impacts TV shows, Liongate movies, Paramount movies, and occasional film exclusives to closed vendors. There might be another few odd titles but most of the list is not relevant here, unless I'm totally misunderstanding things. Good intentions but the list is a mess.

As I stated, I think a lot of it has to do with sharing aspects. So family members can get access to some of the resolutions, and in the case of some titles, port better resolutions to our MA accounts. I certainly have some titles in UV with higher resolutions than I currently own on VUDU, and I would like the two people I share UV with to be able to access those resolutions as well.

Not all of them unless FandangoNow starts porting UV imported titles to MA during their shuffling, and again, family sharing.

It does/will impact resolutions for multiple studios, and again, family sharing, but I do agree that some titles are far more important than others.

I was not aware that FandangoNow was not porting movies from UV into MA. Thank you.

Also family sharing makes sense.

There is some hope given some recent wording to FandangoNow's FAQ about the UV shutdown that FandangoNow MIGHT make some changes soon and start porting films from UV into MA.

Great news for me since I have a WB HD title in UV that VUDU only offers in SD, and multiple Sony UHD titles that are 4K on FandangoNow, but HD on VUDU and therefore, in MA.

I still have a couple (few?) Sony titles and rights to a WB title still 4K in UV that neither FandangoNow nor VUDU have in UHD, so hoping that changes prior to July 31st.

And of course, none of my family share individuals have FandangoNow, so hoping that VUDU gets these titles would be preferable.

Of course, UV retailers like Sony ULTRA and Kaleidescape have a fair amount of UHD titles not currently available on either FandangoNow or VUDU, so unless they become MA retailers (soon), those titles' (resolutions) will also be stuck to those respective services.

The goal is to get all possible UV rights that have already been issued to properly import to Vudu. (It would be great to do the same with FandangoNow but I have little faith we'd see substantial changes there.) Although MA is an important consideration it's irrelevant for many UV titles.

You can get The Death of Superman in your UV locker from FandangoNow. I personally have another recent DCAU 4K title in my UV locker from FandangoNow. I didn't even request the rights (which is something people can do), they were issued automatically. To this day, FandangoNow will issue UV rights for hundreds of TV seasons even though the UV icons were removed after MA launched. FandangoNow's handling of UV after MA is strange and non-obvious so the confusion is understandable.

Yes, if a title is also MA, Vudu needs to import the correct title and resolution so each UV user linked to the UV account gets the proper rights in their MA account. But even if it's not MA, the UV right needs to import properly somewhere and in practice that somewhere is Vudu.

As you noted later, it's possible that FandangoNow turns those UV imports (in the weird separate library where they currently exist) into native purchases. If those then export to MA that would certainly help. Maybe they didn't originally have the expertise to implement a UV-to-MA system like Vudu did. But doing a big one-shot cutover on August 1st should be theoretically possible and easier. We'll see.

Does anyone know if the Extended Cut of "Sucker Punch" (that's available in UHD) should be UV enabled?

My only issues are Passengers, Bram Stoker's Dracula, Suicide Squad: Extended has 4K rights in UV and HDX in Vudu. Running On Empty has HD rights in UV and SD on Vudu.
