Ok guys, I started to acquire some piece's to start a new build. Basically need advice on if I should stick to intel or make the switch to amd.
Going to keep my video card a 1070 founders and my drives. Basically going to need a new board and proc as memory i'm going with corsair pro rgb modules as I picked up a new 280x rgb case that is so damn sexy looking! ![]() |

The case I am using I believe will only go up to a micro atx form factor, a corsair 280x rgb case which will limit me some but needed a smaller case so I can get it off the floor and on my desk, and this case foots that bill plus it looks freaking great with the tempered glass panels all over it. I will be using vengeance pro rgb ddr4 memory modules to match the case and peripherals I will be using. Thing is most people I have talked to so far have said the AMD proc's are beating Intel right now and at a much lesser price point. This is going to be a CAD/Gaming/all around computer box so I want it to have some power. I will be reusing my ssd drives along with my 1070 NVidia founders gpu. |

With the MB, a X470 series is the one to pair it with the the Ryzen 2700/X. This one I would recommend: https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/produ..._f_gaming.html As far as RAM goes, you have to find RAM that's compatible with Ryzen CPU/MB. The MB manual will tell you which RAM model are compatible (you're going to go with at least 3000MHz). If you want to stick with Intel, then go with at least the i7-8700K https://www.microcenter.com/search/s...0&myStore=true As far as the MB, I go with the Z390 (longer possible upgrade path for the CPU). For RAM, with with 3000MHz and no higher than 3200Mhz (DDR4 of course). Hope this helps. Last edited by Wingman1977; 03-01-2019 at 02:40 PM. |

500 on a processor 200 on a board uhh go with I-9 9900K its an easy choice. to me Ryzen is still unproven I want to see a few more kick ass generations and good updates before ill recommend AMD again. If you have a microcenter near you you'll get an extra 30 off the board on a combo deal

I use amd ryzen for customer builds that they will be using for everything (gaming, 3d editing etc) and Intel for just gaming at 1080p. You can use the ryzen for 4k gaming since it's more depended on the gpu but again will depend on your monitor and goals for the build.

One thing to remember that not all RAM is compatible with Ryzen motherboards. |

Yeah I agree the i7 is fine with 4k because that is what I am using for my gaming tower plus two Titan X's. What I meant was the Intel will perform better at 1080p resolution than the ryzen, at 4k either is fine. Yes his budget will def dictate what he can use.

That's what my original questions were to the OP. His budget and his objective of his rig. I personally never heard that Intel is better than AMD at a certain resolution.

![]() Source. Zen 2 (coming out later this year sometime) is supposed to level the playing field though. They demo'd an 8 core 16 thread Zen 2 at CES matching/slightly beating the 9900k with lower power draw and (estimated) lower clocks. |
