Default Samaritan (2022)

Quote:
In what was said to be a competitive bidding situation, MGM has acquired the original spec script, Samaritan, from screenwriter Bragi F. Schut and Sylvester Stallone’s Balboa Productions. As Deadline previously reported, Stallone is attached to star in the film, which was announced as part of the forthcoming film slate from Stallone’s recently formed production banner.

Plot details are scarce but the pic has been described as a dark, fresh take on the superhero genre. MGM will develop the project with Stallone and Braden Aftergood of Balboa. Schut will serve as an executive producer.

I'm intrigued. I hope humanity can handle a dark superhero.

Will keep an eye on this. Wonder who will come on board as director / supporting cast.

I was always curious how badly Stallone regretted having to turn down Batman: Dead End after his agent found out he was gonna act in it basically for free. Like with Edgar Allan Poe, superheroes seem like one of those ideas he's always wanted to tackle but never found the opportunity to. Judge Dredd was the closest he came, although I know he fought hard to get the role of Superman before Reeve got the role, thanks to Brando and Salkinds' approval.

Metro Goldwyn Mayer Samaritan (starring Sylvester Stallone, directed by Julius Avery)

Quote:
EXCLUSIVE: MGM has closed a deal with Julius Avery (Overlord) to direct Samaritan, a thriller that will be the next star vehicle for Sylvester Stallone. Shooting will begin early next year.

Based on an original idea, the thriller centers on young boy who is out to discover if a mythic superhero, who vanished 20 years earlier following a tragic event, is still alive.

“Sly is a hero of mine, I’m incredibly thrilled to be working with such an iconic actor on this very special project with Balboa Productions and MGM,” Avery said.

Screenwriter is Escape Room‘s Bragi F. Schut. Stallone and Balboa Productions partner Braden Aftergood will produce the film as the first project for their company. Schut will serve as an executive producer.

The studio is separately in development with Balboa Productions on a biopic about the boxer Jack Johnson, the first African American heavyweight champion.

Stallone just opened in Rambo: Last Blood.

Avery is repped by CAA and Brillstein Entertainment Partners, and Gang, Tyre; Stallone and Balboa Productions are repped by CAA; Schut is repped by Verve, Realm Management, and Eclipse Law Corporation.

So are any actual showtimes up for this this weekend, there’s a load of clock air articles claiming this is out this weekend, but from the sounds of it no one has moved the release date.

I heavily doubt they’re stealth dropping it, even if it’s an absolute disaster, they surely can put a trailer together for it.

Yeah, until actual showtimes pop up for it this weekend, I don’t think it’s actually releasing. Seems to have no listing on Fandango either or MPA rating (though we know it’s targeting an R)
