Default AMC's 'Orphan Black' Series

Well this came out of left field...Tatiana made the original show special.

Quote:
New ‘Orphan Black’ Series in Development at AMC (EXCLUSIVE)

“Orphan Black” fans could soon have reason to celebrate.

Variety has learned from sources that a new series set in the “Orphan Black” universe is currently in the early development stages at AMC. Temple Street Productions, which produced the original series, is onboard to produce the new series as well.

Sources stressed, however, that this would not be a spinoff or reboot of the original series, but rather a completely new story set in the same world. The producers are currently seeking a writer for the project and are looking to bring in multiple people to pitch different takes on what the show could be.

AMC and Temple Street declined to comment.

News of the development is made all the more interesting by the fact that it is set up at AMC rather than BBC America, which aired the original in the U.S. It is still too early in the process to tell whether the new show would air on multiple networks under the AMC Networks umbrella, but it was recently announced that Season 2 of the critically-acclaimed drama “Killing Eve” would be simulcast on its original network home, BBC America, as well as on AMC.

“Orphan Black” was co-created by John Fawcett and Graeme Manson. The series launched in 2013 and ran for five seasons. It starred Tatiana Maslany as a woman who discovers that she is a clone and that someone is plotting to kill her and her clone “sisters.” Both the series and Maslany’s performance were well-received by critics. She was nominated for three Emmys and a Golden Globe during the show’s run, winning the Emmy for best actress in a drama series in 2016.

So, it's not a spinoff but set in the same world... but they don't even know what it'll be about yet lol It's weird how studios announced intentions to create shows instead of waiting for a show to actually be created, like how they announce casting for parts months in advance that spoil plotlines and reveals.

I loved Orphan Black so if it's interesting I'll watch, but if they're going out of the way to set it in the same world, I feel like it'd have to be about new clones or about the Neolutionists or something.

Never heard of that, looked it up. They're set in the same fictional town and John Fawcett directed the first movie and Tatiana Maslany was in the second, but I don't think that means they're in the same world. One is fantasy and the other is scifi and if a werewolf had been running around years before, Orphan Black would've mentioned it I'm sure lol

This is completely unexpected. I will need to hear more before I can have any real opinion on this.

Alison lives in Bailey Downs, the same neighborhood/town from Ginger Snaps. It was also featured in A Christmas Horror Story.

BBC America is part of the AMC Networks, that's why they'll be doing the second season of Killing Eve as well. Plus wasn't BBC America just who airs it in America? I never fully understood if it was a co-production with the Canadian studio or if it was produced for them and BBC America just airs it in the US.

I'd still say that's all down to the people involved, not actual universe connection. It'd be no different than if Echo from Dollhouse went on a "mission" in a town called Sunnydale... or if Jason Katims, JJ Abrams, or Joss Whedon used other naming aspects for their unconnected shows.

I loved the original series, mainly seasons 1-4, but I gave up on its final one. It was a chore to watch it.

I'll definitely try this out.

Yeah, I started to lose interest even before season 4. The first season was really captivating. Season two was solid but by season 3 it stated to get unwieldy. I think I stopped and didn’t continue right around the middle of season 3. But, I’d try out a new show to see if it’s any good.

The lead actress is quite easy on the eyes too.

Tatiana really is quite something.

Also, she showed she can play multiple characters without any hassle while well known Hollywood actors tend to play the same character whichever movie or show it is.

Krysten Ritter To Star In ‘Orphan Black: Echoes’ AMC Networks Series

[imgg]https://deadline.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/07/Krysten-Ritter-AMC-Networks.jpg?w=681&h=383&crop=1[/img]

Breaking Bad alumna Krysten Ritter is returning to AMC as star and executive producer of Orphan Black: Echoes, the upcoming Orphan Black offshoot series slated for a 2023 debut on AMC Networks’ digital platform AMC+ and linear nets.

The 10-episode new series, produced and distributed globally by Boat Rocker, is set in the world of Orphan Black.

Orphan Black: Echoes takes place in the near future and explores the scientific manipulation of human existence. It follows a group of women — one of them played by Ritter — as they weave their way into each other’s lives and embark on a thrilling journey, unravelling the mystery of their identity and uncovering a wrenching story of love and betrayal.

Ritter’s Lucy is a woman with an unimaginable origin story, trying to find her place in the world.

Anna Fishko is creator, writer, showrunner and executive producer of Orphan Black: Echoes with John Fawcett, the co-creator of the original series, on as director and executive producer. David Fortier and Ivan Schneeberg, executive producers from Boat Rocker on the original Orphan Black, return as executive producers on the new series. Katie O’Connell Marsh, Nick Nantell, and Kerry Appleyard also executive produce for Boat Rocker.

Known for her title roles in Marvel’s Jessica Jones and Don’t Trust the B—- in Apartment 23, Ritter will next be seen in HBO’s Love and Death, opposite Elizabeth Olsen. She was recently seen in the film Nightbooks for Netflix and directed and executive produced the supernatural YA series The Girl in the Woods for Peacock. Ritter also is working on a follow-up to her novel Bonfire.

Ritter, who got her break on Breaking Bad as Jane Margolis, is repped by CAA, Industry Entertainment, Principal Entertainment LA, and Brecheen, Feldman, Breimer, Silver, and Thompson.

‘Orphan Black: Echoes’ Trailer Teases Krysten Ritter in Next Chapter of Clone Drama

https://www.youtube.com/supported_br...tube.com/watch

Krysten Ritter has fallen down an all new rabbit hole in the first look at the AMC Networks’ anticipated spinoff, Orphan Black: Echoes.

The network released the minute-and-a-half trailer on Thursday during its panel for The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon, and sees a disoriented Lucy (portrayed by Ritter) waking up to an unrecognizable near future. The original series is set in the same clone-filled universe as its critically acclaimed and fan-loved BBC America predecessor, Orphan Black, which starred Tatiana Maslany.

“What’s wrong with me?” Ritter’s Lucy can be seen asking. ”Why don’t I know who I am?”

The series is set to explore the scientific manipulation of human existence and will follow a group of women as they weave their way into each other’s lives while embarking on a journey that will both unravel the mystery of their identity and uncover a story of love and betrayal.

During the panel, it was also revealed that Rya Kihlstedt (A Teacher, One Mississippi) and James Hiroyuki Liao (Barry, The Dropout) have joined the cast as series regulars, with Reed Diamond (Better Call Saul, Mosquito Coast) set to will recur in season one as a guest star.

The series will air on AMC, AMC+ and BBC America and is expected to release sometime in 2024.

Since there's no thread for Echoes, I'll just post here.... show was cancelled by AMC

https://variety.com/2024/tv/news/orp...mc-1236149351/

I just watched it over the weekend, it was fine but setting it in the Orphan Black universe hindered it. It had the built in comparison and it just wasn't anywhere near as good as the superior parent show.
