Default Samsung bp1400 will bestbuy take it back?

Hi, my best friend bought me a Samsung bp1400 blu-ray player, he doesn't know that much about HD. Now don't get me wrong I do want a new blu-ray player but not the samsung I've heard a lot of problems with samsung. I was thinking about taking it back to best buy and getting a better model. I don't want to ask him for the receipt because I don't want to seem like I don't like the gift. Has anyone taken a gift back to bestbuy and if so is there anything you can tell me. I don't want to make the trip if it can't be done.

As long as it is unopened, BB will take it back before the 31st. I just took back a Christmas gift I didn't want to BB. They will give you the lowest sale price it's had in the last few months.

Hello everyone , I'm new to this forum and have been reading most of your threads. I use to own the samsung bp1400 had problems with the first one, had updated its firmware still same problem not being able to play LFDH. Went to Best Buy exchanged it for another one, still the same problem. Brought it back they gave me a hard time trying to get another brand of bd player however they finally let me exhanged it for the panasonic after being upset of having a player not being able to play all blue ray dvd. They wanted to exchange it for yet another samsung; told them I'm through with samsung wanted to try another brand and finally happy with the panasonic. Hope they won't give you hard time .

I have no problems with my 1400. None, zero, nada. I cannot express to you how much I think the complaints are overblown concernining this model. It works well with my Onkyo 605 as well. Although if you still don't want it, you could "regift" it and send it to me. lol

Well I don't think he would notice just as long as I have a blu-ray player in it place.

I got my dad a Samsung bp1400 for Christmas. Long story short, its a piece of crap, so I took it back to best buy. I have a PS3, so I have something to compare it with. The box was already opened, and they took it back and gave me store credit since they were all out of the Sony S300. A week later I found an S300 at my Best Buy, so I got it and my dad is very happy with it.

Best Buy has a pretty generous return policy right now (until January 31). Just tell them you got it for a gift and its no problem, they wont care for a receipt.

Comparing the Samsung bp1400 to the Sony S300, the S300 loads much faster, does not have any problem playing any movie (1400 does not play some), and the software running the player is much more stable and efficient in the Sony.

Comparing the S300 to the PS3, well the PS3 loads way faster, almost instantaniously. On the other hand, the S300 seems to make for a slightly (and I mean slightly) sharper picture. I did test this on the same projector (sim2 Domino 30h) with HDMI and running Rattatuille. Sound was about the same on both.

to me the S300 is nowhere close to the same value as the 1400
The 1400 has a couple features over the S300:

-Samsung is HDMI 1.3, I think the Sony is only 1.2
-S300 has no HD audio decoding or passing though bitstream (this is a big downside)
- No ethernet

These reasons, especially the lack of bitstreaming the HD audio or even decoding it and sending it as PCM, are big drawbacks when considering the S300. I got my Sammy 1400 for 220 from CC so to me there is nothing even close to that value.

If the PS3 had the advanced audio it would be hands down the best player on the market, I do not think many will dispute that either. It has everythig else hands down IMO. doesnt have the HD audio either

Default Sammy 1400 return for BD30

I purchased a Sammy 1400 (open box) from BB got 5 free movies in store and 5 free mail in. Brought the Sammy home it wouldn't play any Blu-Ray movies. It played DVD and CDs but not Blu-Ray. I updated the firmware - still no luck. It played about 10 seconds of Spiderman III than stopped. I took it back to BB (I kept the movies). Traded it in for a Panny BD30 and they were nice enough to give me 5 free and 5 mail in again. No issues with the Panny - I haven't upgraded the firmware as of yet since I have I have had no issues.
