Default Naruto on Blu-ray

https://www.amazon.fr/Coffret-Naruto...A1X6FK5RDHNB96

Is this for real? True 1080p? What's up?

I would bet the same upscaled SD video, but would be really happy if it turned out to be true HD masters. Love Naruto.

IIRC, the original Naruto was animated via digital paint and was natively finished/rendered in 480i SD. Naturally, any HD form of the original series would be a simple upscale. However, if the French got a hold of the Naruto: Shōnen Hen HD remaster that's been making the rounds, that would be true HD. I believe for that Pierrot went back to the digital animation files and along with redoing the SD CG effects and title cards, rerendered everything out to 2k, which in a way is still upscaled given the native res of the animation files.

So, it's finally coming to Blu-Ray but, will it be cropped to widescreen? The back says, "1080p 16:9 Video," does that mean cropped or pillarboxed?

It was already available on Blu-ray in Germany, but meh, the quality in general isn't very good. The new "remaster" cropped is just gonna be annoying like the DBZ FUNi releases.

If the Naruto Blu-ray Sets sell well most likely we will see Naruto Shippuden be released on Blu-ray.

Please please PLEASE include both TEXTLESS versions 1 and 2 of the opening intro

For the life of me, especially V2 of ROCKS intro, I can't find on any DVD. Not even the limited pressing of Naruto Best Hit Collection, which includes textless intros from the first era. But only one version.

Did the DVDs include both versions of textless intros?

Ok so viz media uploaded a clip today thats apparently from this upcoming Naruto blu ray release and its in the correct 4x3 aspect ratio. Maybe the "1080p 16x9" on the back of the blu ray was a mistake??

Omg is it actually in the correct aspect ratio? So why did viz media put "1080p 16x9" on the back of the blu ray than? Guess it really was just a typo.

I am assuming that's what happened yeah. The sad part is that because of the typo there are probably going to be people who will avoid this release believing it is 16x9.

If its not to much trouble, could you please upload some pictures showing the blu ray release itself? I'm really excited for this release, especially now since you've said it's in the correct aspect ratio. =)

Thank you for sharing the caps. Can you confirm if both versions of the ROCKS textless openings are included, or just one? Are they also upscaled or 480i? Are they lossless or lossy audio?

I will have to check that and get back to you. I didn't look at the special features upon getting the blu-ray but I will be sure to look at them and let you know.

I only see the option for one version on the special features.

As I suspected, this is a 1080i master. I knew they wouldn't force a 24p encode on this otherwise the field rate would be messed up. De-interlaced artifacts here and there. But this probably still the best way to watch the show.

Going to exchange my copy though because it arrived with the discs loose and a visible SCRATCH.

Thanks. I managed to inspect my own copy just now. As you've said, it is one version but it's the superior version of the opening, like how when Sasuke, Sakura and Kakashi fought the bad guys in the forest, it's closer to sunset among other changes, revisions and nuances.

Here is a screenshot of the opening ad closing credits. Each one has the option to watch the credits with or without the text on them. As for the audio, it sounds great in my opinion and doesn't appear to have any loss. Also, the video quality of the opening and closing credits do appear to have been upscaled.

I tried to add another image showing the other special features this Blu-ray has but was unable to upload it. Besides trailers, they have an art gallery and an interview with Maile Flanagan.
