I, like most on the forum pretty much consider the first phase of Blu-Ray's struggle for mass-market potential over. (against HD DVD)
I feel that now, as has been discussed heavily on the forums, we need to focus our attention on helping to educate those who have not experienced Blu-Ray, or think DVD is 'good enough', when they have a perfectly good HDTV going to waste. With this in mind, I have created the following promotional piece for everyone to use. The one displayed below is just a web version, but below it is a link to download it as a print-quality PDF. ![]() Link to the High Quality PDF You'll notice, I don't even bring up HD DVD once in the promotional piece. I simply state the benefits and basic information about why Blu-Ray is so great. I handed these out at people who've been fence-sitting at work today, and I encourage everyone to do the same. ![]() Enjoy! Last edited by Spider1981; 01-16-2008 at 04:46 PM. |

Why the need to "battle" SD-DVD?
There's no reason hi- and lo- def media can't co-exist. If there's a benefit to driving SD-DVD out what is it? |

Spent all this time fighting DUD and that isn't even OFFICIALLY over yet and were picking another target? It seems that some people now have no purpose in life again now that this war is closing. What to do? Even the forum discussions have gotten old, bland and nothing really to debate anymore. |

I don't look at it so much as a 'Blu vs DVD smack down fight' so much as a get the word out to consumers with HD equipment what they could be getting out of Blu-Ray. |

I agree. It's inevitable that people will go for the higher quality. Really for me all it took was a HDTV and I wanted to use my tv to its full capacity. Only way to do that with movies is Blu-ray. To me, HDTVs will do the job.

The whole reason Blu-Ray was creates as well as that other format was to replace dvd's not to co-exist. |

I made a post a few days ago with a cut and paste copy of a letter I sent to friends to prevent them from wasting their money on slashed-to-sell H-DuD players.
I'll repost it here, and feel free to cut and paste to sent a note to YOUR friends... ------ Hi All, Anyone that's gotten within spitting distance of me over the last year or so may have been subjected to one of my rants about Blu-Ray. What's Blu-Ray you ask? Silly rabbits... Most of us have DVD players... Some of us have really cool high definition televisions. The next generation of HIGH DEFINITION DVD players have been fighting over the last year or so to become king of the hill. The two different technologies are called HD-DVD and Blu-ray. Long story short, they are DVD's that hold high definition movies, but you can't play them on a regular DVD player - yes, you'd need a new player to hook up to your TV to play a HD-DVD or Blu-Ray disc. Many people compare the war between Blu-Ray and HD-DVD to the war, years ago, between VHS and Betamax tapes. VHS won that war. Because of the current war, many people have been holding off on buying a next generation player - until a clear winner was decided. Information was finally released that is the final nail in the coffin, the death knell, for HD-DVD. Warner Brothers, the only company publishing movies in both Blu-ray format AND HD-DVD format announced that by May of 2008, they will be completely Blu-ray exclusive. With many other companies having already gone Blu exclusive, Warner brothers was seen as the tipping point to the whole shebang. With Warner's announcement, the battle for hi-definition format supremacy, in effect, is over. I'm not sending this out to be some kind of shill for Blu-Ray. But since many people are buying high-definition tv sets, and MAY be looking to watch high definition movies on them, I thought I'd pass this along. Before you go to a store and see a shelf full of slashed-to-sell HD-DVD players (like you would have seen shelves of Betamax players 20 years ago), I just wanted to get the word out to you - my peeps - not to be fooled by low prices or an uneducated store clerk. I'd encourage anyone interested in learning more about hi-definition video players to go to www.blu-ray.com for more information (and to read posts from a lot of very happy Blu-Ray owners, especially given the news from Warner). If you have any specific questions, I'd be happy to answer them if I can. (Also, here is a link to the WB announcement http://www.timewarner.com/corp/newsr...700383,00.html ) Some quick points: 1) Yes, a Blu-Ray player WILL play all your regular DVD's, and most will even "upconvert" them to make them look even better on an HD TV. 2) Playstation 3's are game systems, but also play Blu-Ray movies. In fact, the PS3 is STILL regarded as one of the best BR players on the market. 3) Even if you don't have a Hi-Def TV, Blu-Rays still look GREAT on a regular TV. When they scan the movie to make a Hi-Def version, time is spent cleaning the film, and revising the sound, for maximum picture and sound quality. So watching on a tube-style TV is still better than a DVD because the picture looks better. Later, when you get a HDTV, you're ready to rock. The prices are still coming down, but especially if you're someone with a little extra cash, and like new toys (especially one to go with that nice new LCD or plasma TV you bought) - Check out Blu-Ray. Just trying to save you some money - avoid the temptation to buy a dirt-cheap HD-DVD player - the stores are basically clearing their shelves. But for those of you sitting on the fence, waiting for a winner to be decided... wait no longer. |

Very nice. I have encouraged 3 people to buy blu in the last month. I still have more on my list. This will help out nicely.

This is sweet Spider! Just reading the flyer you created alone would totally get me excited to own a Blu-ray player if I didn't already have one. Actually, it still makes me excited to have one!
I love the picture reference. I was caught talking about Blu-ray on Saturday and one of my friends asked, "is it really that much better?" I honestly stated, "it really depends on the movie," but this is great reference material that I could give out to those interested who don't own a Blu-ray player yet. Thanks! |
