I haven't been following the news about this film even though I am super excited about it. So if the first film is successful they will do the second part and then a streaming series will follow? Is that correct?

Not really. It’s been discussed that they are splitting the first movie into two. This is just the second half.

The first movie WILL flop, this is a foregone conclusion.

So perhaps the Sisterhood TV series is already being re-thought if they've moved Spaihts off that and onto this.

I can't recall of the top of my head anyone ever adapting HALF a book onto film, so can we assume that Speights is adapting either Paul Of Dune, the canon sequel to the first book, or Dune Messiah?

Warner just did the same thing with the two It films - the screenplays were written at different times.

Spaihts is writing the second Dune film, which covers roughly the second half of the original book.

Also, there's no way they'd ever go straight from this to Paul of Dune, no one cares about the Brian Herbert stuff. If Dune parts 1 & 2 are successful, then I guess they'd consider Dune Messiah as the next film.

The last Hunger Games book, the last Twilight book, the previously mentioned Deathly Hallows and It. The final book in the Divergent series was split into two movies, but the second half was never produced because the first half flopped.

The new Dune movie is the first half of the book.
The second part has always been conditional upon the success of the first movie, It is similar to Alita in that regard.
The streaming series is a somewhat separate entity, although it is hard to picture this being successful if the first movie is not successful.
I would have preferred that Dune be done as an HBO limited series with the original book spread over 10 hours or so.
I fear, as do others, that the first movie will not be sufficiently profitable for part 2 to be created.

I find myself doubting there's two movies' worth of content in that book, much less 10 hours.

I don't understand writing off Dune as a box office failure before it's even released. I actually think with the talent involved, this movies gonna do better than people think. The original Dune movie isn't even practically remembered by the majority of people likely to see this on release. To them, it's got Zendaya whose known as Mary Jane, Mamoa known as Aquaman and maybe curiosity gets them to check it out. So i think they must be feeling confident enough to try pen a sequel already.

The problem with previous movie/TV adaptations of Dune has been that much of the movie only makes sense to those who have read the book. The book explains what is going on, but simple prose explanations aren't particularly cinematic. Lynch's version has far too many voice-overs and the Smithee gave the background story in an almost didactic manner completely at odds with the tone of the rest of the movie. A short-run series would allow for development of the Empire, the Harkonnen, the Atreides, and the Bene Gesserit. It would obviously require either some new material or bring in some prequel material.

To me, Dune has always been a novel of political intrigue as well as a of an unwilling messiah struggling with his destiny. We'll see if this can all be fit into a 5 hour split movie with enough time left for the action portion of the novel.

Dune The Alternative Version 2.o by Spicediver clocks in at just a few minutes over 3 hours. Expanding the action in the war of Fremen Vs Harkonnen in the second half of the narrative should give some epic battle scenes (the war took 2 years i recall) and still have the complete adaptation come in at about the 4 hour mark.

Really? That book has so many layers it could easily fill 10 hours.
