Amazon have this listed for January 13th next month.

Arguably the greatest concert movie ever made and one hell of an incredible album. Hopefully this will have the same extras as the German edition from a few months ago and maybe something extra just for the UK fans.

We can hope! The fact that it's 4 weeks away and 101 Films haven't got the word out makes me worry that it's just going to be a barebones release though.

Prince was good performer period, not just in Sign 'O' The Times. His live performances, he gave it his all and more. He had a gift. Anybody who have seen him live, have never said he gave a bad concert because, Prince was very serious about his music! Other musicians who've played for him have stated that Prince was a perfectionist. He wanted every sound and note to be perfect and he settle for nothing less, even for himself.

Purple Rain movie always has & always will be one of my most fond faves. Amazing music & music performances that make the film electric. (Being an 80's movie ticks my boxes too)

Oh, I can’t imagine there’s a chance in Hell Turbine would just hand over all their exclusive bonus features to some other distributor.

No idea if 101 will produce anything themselves but I would say there’s zero chance the Turbine extras will be included

The announcement of the barebones UK release was already done shortly after the news of the Turbine release broke.

There's a new deluxe set of the 1999 album that includes a DVD of a live concert. The image quality is a bit fuzzy, but it's a multicamera shoot. The sound is stereo and has a lot of hall ambience, not off the mixing board. But the performance is amazing. I can't get enough of Prince live.

I've got an Australian import of this. Would definitely upgrade if there's a better restoration.

I'm surprised it's not coming out as a deluxe with the accompanying album, as that definitely needs remastering. Then again, I hope this means it increases the chances of the original Dream Factory, Crystal Ball and Camille albums seeing the light of day.

There are different rights holders for the film and album.
This is described on the SuperDeluxeEdition website in their articles on the Turbine film release.

I have the Australian and the picture quality is definitely better on the German (and I presume Japanese). The regular Stereo Dolby Surround track is better than the remixed 5.1s. I think the German 5.1 is just a sweetened discrete mix made from the Dolby Stereo original. I don't think they had multitrack masters to work with.

I think Calum Waddell had a lot to do with the German release. He's usually quite good at promoting his stuff and I haven't seen him mention this release at all (yet) which makes me think his extras probably aren't being ported over sadly. Hope I'm wrong though!

IIRC this video contains some info on how the two different multi-channel tracks were done for the German release:

The Estate do not have the rights to the movie. The movie's rights were sold to an external company long ago.
