tv size and player

guys, got a question for ya. i currently have a sony 34xbr960

what im curious about, on this size, will i really notice much of a picture difference between any of the players? the t.v. isn't huge so any minor differences will be pretty negligible. i'm look at picking up a refurb or cheap sammy. any ideas?

Definitely. That's a good TV and you'll see the difference.

I have a 36 inch Toshiba (4 years) and have only component imputs but let me tell you , you will see a night and day difference between dvd and blu ray

That's the TV I have! YES! YES! YES!

You have a professional grade monitor right there and the industry leader/standard that has yet to be beat.

Do yourself a favor, if you haven't already, and get that puppy ISF calibrated.

The Super Fine Pitch Tube gives you an extra boost on resolution. 40 percent if I recall correctly.

6-8 feet viewing distance with that thing is perfection with quality source material.

When I had HD-DVD here for six weeks the picture was drop dead amazing. OTA Network HD here is drop dead amazing. Any quality source is amazing on this thing. Many of my upconverted DVD's look "HD like" on this thing.


You can't do any better than this TV at $2000 or less...assuming you have the space for a bulky CRT that is.

That TV is arguably the best CRT tube ever made, hands down.

Great HD on this thing is literally like looking out a window. You can't do any better than this.

I think what he meant was that if he would see a great difference between the different BD players so to save some money buying the cheapest if there was no great difference

i noticed (today) mine is having a little bit of a color issue. it almost looks like there is a magnet close by. yes, i have speakers, but my left front channel is two and a half feet away and my center channel is shielded. so, im going to talk to my dealer this week. however, i still love the set. the picture on it is so good that at times even standard def is hi-def (looking) on it.

two of my favorite movies to watch to show off the picture is star wars episode 3 and lotr. they put a lot of hi-def channels to shame.

anyway, as to my original question. any thoughts of the player making a big difference on this display?
