Default Game and extra controller prices?

Have they mentioned if game prices are going up? I feel like controllers will definitely be going up in price.

no, they haven’t said anything about pricing

I doubt game prices will increase anytime soon. I could be wrong but AAA prices seems to be overall down since the season pass trend slowed down

compared to a few years ago when $90-80 “ultimate” editions were the norm for almost every publisher. Not saying that there are no deluxe and whatnot versions now, but extras have been mostly cosmetics lately, or at least that’s what I’ve noticed

Let's be honest, outside of inflation, there's no possible reason they could try claim more money than current RRPs. Most games are a substandard mess or extremely small in duration compared to the past.

Sony already has high RRPs for controllers or accessories in general imo so shouldn't hopefully try to increase either.

I expect Controllers to be around $90 Canadian & games to start at $80. Then in a few years games will be $90.

I hate being one of those "In my day" people but technically i've lived through an entire generation of multiple PlayStation consoles and i've not really seen anything change to where i feel like the price increase is anything other than a corporate attempt to increase profits. All whilst imo costs aren't growing as exponentially as they claim in some areas.

Personally i refuse to pay over a certain amount. My line in the sand if you will is that once i feel gaming is over a certain value point, i'm going to wait till a while after launch to buy a console on sale and also games months after release with perhaps a few exceptions if i really, really wanna play. Mainly though waiting doesn't hurt the wallet on SP games unless you run into spoilers.

Well good luck with that, maybe if they want to end day 1 buyers?

obviously they know they can’t get away with that. all signs show that this ain’t happening, I would’ve agreed if you said that at the start of this current gen

as for controllers, if they added more tech into it, then sure, they’ll charge extra, at least at first

I really hope they don't increase prices. It's rare I buy games these days as it is and they tend to be a few years old before I do because I look at it as a price vs. hours of entertainment value. Big RPG games that I plan on playing for hundreds of hours, I have no qualms paying $60 for. But many action/adventure games clock in at 4 - 6 hours, 12 hours at the top end. So even if the game lasts 12 hours, that's $5/hour for a $60 game (excluding taxes). Dunno about you guys but that's doesn't seem like a good investment of my money.

I guess I probably shouldn't use the same metric on all games across all platforms tho since multiplayer games would offer near unlimited replayability... take Left 4 Dead 2 (Steam/PC) for instance. I have over 2,000 hours on that game and only paid $10 for it meaning it has a less than 1cent/hour cost.

Still, regardless of if games are $60 or $80 brand new - it will remain a case by case basis if I purchase it day 1. More often than not most games I get will continue to be older and only cost around $20 by the time I pick them up or possibly free* with PS+.

*Obviously not "free" considering PS+ costs money to keep the subscription.

After seeing the new video on the new controller. Yeah, these things are going up in price. $80-100 is my guess. https://www.ps5playstation5.com/dualshock5/

That was a fake mocked up video render of a Dualshock 5. A good one but fake. Also this site isn't exactly a bastion looking URL name of credibility lol. Just wait for official confirmation of specs, design etc. It seems to be coming soon based on past experience and industry news.

Nintendo is getting $70 for their Switch Pro Controller, so I’d expect at least that for PS5.

I saw their "Pro" controller and tbh i didn't get why they got away with it. The crap looks like a regular Xbox controller tbh. I don't know equivalent UK pricing but to me, i'd like to think maybe £75-100 is what Sony would want an intermediate DS5 with paddles to cost with slightly better build quality and 2 paddles. Maybe swappable parts but you buy that separately and a full on Elite V2 style controller with everything included and 4 paddle design for more.

The thing I still don't get is why the digital version of a game is generally more expensive than the disc version. Something there isn't right. If they want more people downloading, then cut the price. I do buy a lot of digital, but only if the game is in a sale.

They're willing to price gouge you for wanting convenience and being lazy. Similar to insurance etc. contracts that auto renew or continue on. Then when they feel the infrastructures big enough for all digital devices and selling you digital only, they'll say that's how it's always been for pricing and have a monopoly on ripping you off.

Personally i feel savvy enough to think, okay, i'll just buy when things are out for ages on sale and maybe use different region stores like how right now you can buy Horizon Zero Dawn complete edition for £3 on a US code but its way more in the UK. So to me i'll use VPNs and stuff to buy from different stores. The problem is that Sony etc. in an all digital ecosystem could then change their T&Cs or the way the current system works and screw you over.

Though tbh, i do wonder if the potential threat of doing that and backlash from gamers would be enough to keep them honest. Unfortunately gamers have shown too many times before they're happy to take a beating and continue buying from companies with a history of shady practices despite their apparent protests.

I said i'd give up gaming if consoles went totalitarian but tbh, there might be hope for more traditional minded gamers on PC instead. Perhaps with rumours of all content eventually being on PC from console brands with MS showing that already, the writing is on the wall. Then peripheral prices etc. won't mean a thing.

I was wondering about that myself. For AAA single player games with no season passes or microtransactions, I could definitely see a price hike to 69.99 USD.

I think most big games are worth closer to like $100 and I would pay this. But as for my own self interest, I hope they don't go up sure. But I do think that developers should get paid more and/or have better working conditions and schedules. It could only lead to better games.

I see the opposite happening, software has very low value imo, and it will only go lower if everything got ported to PC

If they mentioned it it would have been all over the gaming news websites and there wouldn't be any way to miss it or find it...
